Taller than I thought ! I think he`s settlingwell in now. Another question - who was the oriental guy throwing balls up for him to head at Anfield before kick-off ? - didn`t look like Lee.
Think his surname is Tanaka. Used to work for Huddersfield Town. Is a qualified coach as well as translator for our Japanese contingent.
Yoshida is a good centre back......However he has been playing mainly in the Asia leagues. Their style of football is so different to ours. A lot slower..I think he was brought in more for the future and more as cover for hoover and Fonte trying to give him time to adjust to our style and the pace of the premier. Sadly Hoovers loss of form or what ever you want to call it, meant he had to be thrown in at the deep end. Most would agree surely that he has taken the bull by the horn and is truly beginning to show his potential now?
I wonder if Jos would have upped his game and improved given more game time. I am aware that Adkins couldn't take the chance, but it shows how your career can turn on a few games. Look how SKD was dropped when in truth the whole defence was struggling, then he returns and has a decent game (admittedly against Reading).
because of the form from the defence, Davies had nothing to do. Reading had 1 good attempt and it hit the post with Kelvin beaten. The defence is now looking like a solid unit which is just as well as now we are struggling going forward
He also collected a couple of crosses and collected the ball when he needed to. Gives the defence confidence when the keeper does the easy stuff well. They work as a unit...defenders can't do their bit if they are worried about the keeper.
Yoshida Improving = Japanese culture of Kaizen... thought he looked pretty good in the last few games I've seen, but so have the whole team to be honest. And I don't think its fair to blame any single player for the Swansea goal, it could have been prevented on several occasions..
Was a bit of a baptism of fire at the Emirates. Has been improving since then, seems to be adjusting well to the speed of the British game.
Yoshida has been improving steadily into a pretty sound premiership cb imo. I think that the away game at Stoke and then the New Years Day game v the Arsenal will be a really good indicator on how far Yoshida and the rest of our defence have come - or not as the case may be !
I personally think he's better than Fonte. I haven't understood the bashing at all... think he looks composed on the ball, reads the game faster than Fonte and generally nips any danger in the bud very quickly. He's our best defender in our opinion, though I agree another CB wouldn't go amiss in January. No doubt if we had bought him from another PL team he'd be rated higher... maybe as high as greats such Curtis Davies, Scott Dann and Roger Johnson...
I truly believe he will be a nice guy but i also think he is not as good as you are all writing. He has been very lucky several times in the past few weeks. He has been playing against the weaker teams with the weaker forwards. Otherwise we certainly would not have had 2 clean sheets. Saw several free headers on the posts, saw several situations in which he did not read the game well. I would like to see the guy playing teams like Jos did (Arsenal, Mu, MC, etc.) Think you will tell another story then. Also don't understand the talking about the "better play of defence" and the stories about "they gel good together" "even gel better". Last year i think Jos and Jose had a very good partnership and it gelled good like most of you said. This is not over after a few weeks in premiership and i think it was not over in these first few games. We all seem to forget we have been playing the top of premeirship those weeks. So, Yoshida may be a nice guy but is not as good as Jos is. Hope Jos is going to play very soon (we even might need his length coming saturday) but on the other hand i hope you will be able to see what Yosida is capable of when we are playing the top-teams again.
