Some heavy stuff on the board at the moment. So why don't we have a bit of fun reminiscing? There are no 'correct' or more valid answers!!!! You can offer more than one answer if you like.
Some of my most memorable moments (apart from the promotion seasons) are from the early 1990s when I first started going as a boy. The 4-1 win over Leeds the season they won the League was amazing; an Andy Sinton hat-trick, I think. Andy Sinton and Alan McDonald still remain two of my all-time greats. The away win at Newcastle with goals from Sir Les and Bradley Allen also really stands out as an amazing day out an memory. In more recent times, the Cup win at Aston Villa was probably one of the best away performances I'd seen from the Rangers in years - a great night and victory.
Easy one for me. John Byrnes goal against Chelsea when we beat them 6-0. I was in the away paddock. Great skill took on about seven Chelsea defenders and slotted the ball home. He was like a downhill slalom skier leaving everyone in his wake. It was the icing on the cake of the immensely enjoyable humiliation.
Taraabt vs Cardiff in the promotion season. 1-1 and the ball looped up on the edge of the box following a corner. Tarbs was brave enough to win the ball and then produced a deft finish. We were right behind it in the Ellerslie Road stand and the place erupted.
For me it was a game I was not at and it was only a draw! 28.8.10. In injury time, Dave used his pace and strength to out muscle the defender and with some skill dinked the ball past the oncoming keeper for 2:1. With the crowd screaming for the ref to blow, their player hoofed up field towards the QPR end and out for a throw. Quick throw to Paddy who clocked Mackie's position. The ball was hefted over to Mackie who chested, controlled, turned and shot into corner beyond the despairing keeper. Warnock and Co celebrating the draw with Derby like it was a win and every QPR fan delirious with joy!! Of course we went on a long unbeaten run, ended by Watford at home, but went on to be promoted that year. Always brings a smile to my face as does the win over Owls for promotion that year which I was fortunate to be at.
Clive Allen in semi final at highbury . Going absolutely mental at the top of the northbank and ending up at the bottom .
New Years Day 1992(?). I was in bed with a new Girlfriend and said they have to be 3-0 up inside 5 minutes or I will be useless. Man U 0 QPR 2 inside 5 mins.......missed the rest of the game. I had the feeling that every one scored that day.
So many to choose from but I'm going to put forward Liverpool 1-3 QPR. The one and only time we've ever won there. I remember being 2-0 up and jan Molby pulling one back from the spot and after the usual goal cheer, the place erupted with a second, significantly louder encouragement roar from them. Hairs on the back of the neck stuff. We held on, added a third (Clive Wilson) and history was made. Incidentally, the week before, Liverpool beat derby 7-0 or 7-1, and the following week, we drew 1-1 with the rams at home. Football in a nutshell.
Routledge against Coventry Taarabt's amazing pass: simple and genius Win has to be this weekend
I know i have posted this before but it still brings back fantastic memories.....champions for 10 days. It's a half hour video from The Big Match, introduced by Brian Moore, the final game of the season against leeds......For the younger contributors this is why the names Phil, Dave, Ian, John, Frank, Dave, Dave, Gerry, Don, Stan, Don & Mick roll of the tongue so easily.....So make a cup of tea, feet up & enjoy.
Great memories of that season Tramore, and one memory was a League Cup replay at Charlton, we were lucky to get a draw in the home game but at the Valley we won 3-0 and Dave Thomas scored a worldy from 35 yards. I was standing high up on the huge terrace and in direct line behind him as he cut inside from the left wing and hit a shot that went like an arrow right up into the goalkeeper's top left hand corner, pure class...
For me in recent times it has to be either Taarabt v Cardiff at home and away, or Mackie v Liverpool last season. All three meant so much on each occasion and sent me wild on each occasion.
Goddamn! You got there before me! The cherry on the icing was Speedie getting sent off I reckon. Oh and me travelling back to Chelmsford with two Chelsea supporting mates, they tried to avoid us at Liverpool Street, weren't gonna happen! Happy happy day.
For me the goal is Mackies at Man City away last year. I thought Id gone to heaven. The game, FA Cup semi v West Brom in 82 at Highbury. Amazing scenes.
