I wish it was more like you described, my experience of watching this nonsense is nothing like that, its more American now in presentation, the armed forces parading the trophy out, totally ridiculous, over sentimentalised and music accompanying everything. I think it is written in BBC law that if anything dramatic is being shown dramatic music must be provided (plus slow motion just to make sure the audience REALLY understands the drama of the situation). Dumbing down, I hate it.
Miserable response: what's wrong with celebrating a great year of sport. Yep there are reasons to be critical but why bother
Nothing to do with being miserable, its just a crass stylistic choice which I find demeaning on the viewers intelligence. We are not all X Factor wannabies who need this constant interruption of over dramatised monologues, slo-motion and this ****ing unrelenting stream of music.
I think Wiggo is the clear favourite. Personally I would vote for Katherine Grainger, although you could make strong cases for all twelve.
Remember the award says "personality".Wiggins has more personality than the other 11 put together, on top of being an outstanding sportsman. For once we got it spot on.(remember Giggs FFS)
....why would a front man for the band Cold Play win? they play music, not sport. i believe there is another C. Martin who is associated with sport, but i can't remember anything about him.
The role model aspect has always been part of it, hence why Ryan Giggs won it. 1 year later the Imogen Thomas thing came out. I actually think every single nominee, and some not nominated deserved it. Shame it was all the same year though.
