Anyone watch this show and inparticular today's? Had a nice 10 minute chat dedicated to Norwich today and lavished praise on both Hughton and the players. They were talking about if we can sustain a challenge on the top 4 for the remainder of the season and seemed to think it wasn't out of reach as no club seems to want to get a stranglehold on 4th. It was all a bit surreal lol. Anyway I'd still happily finish 17th and personally still see us finishing between 10th and 15th but was very interesting to see such journalists views on us. On a side note..Lawro said one word on MOTD lol.
To be fair - Shearer did praise both goalscorers yesterday and boy did they deserve it?? What does it matter if Holt's not on the scoresheet - midfield players have chipped in with quite a few gals in recent weeks. How many other teams can score 4 goals in a game and have 4 different players scoring?? Awsome!!!!
True, it's just the way they come across leaves a bit of a foul taste in the mouth jr. Shearer is preferable to lawro tbh, he did praise Wes especially
Just listened to the Sunday Supplement show's podcast. Good discussion; (only mentioned Lambert once/twice, and nothing about 'back to back promotions'); concentrated on us as a premier league club doing well, but at risk of faltering because of the size of our squad. Very fair analysis, praising the style of the football, and very (of course) complimentary about Hughton. No mention at all about the possibility of relegation; but about whether Norwich, (or one of the other smaller clubs) might threaten the likes of Spurs, Arsenal or Liverpool for 4th position. Well worth the listen - our bit starts at about 12/13 minutes in.
Sounds good, I'll give it a go. What's this about the size of our squad, though? Aren't all squads the same size these days?
Disagree about them saying the size of are squad is small, baring in mind our reserves beat a full strength Spurs side in the cup. We won't challenge for Champions League at all, I still think if Hughton keeps us up that's a fantastic achievement, anything more is a bonus. Until we hit 40 points, I am not looking at anything else. It's great to say we are 2 points from Champions League near Christmas, don't get me wrong, but still checking what's below us first. Saw Henry Winter has Hughton down for Manager of the Season so far, I know I shouldn't mention Lambert, but I actually think Hughton is a better manager than him, complete different styles, but I think Hughton's ability to see a problem and fix quickly is remarkable. The way he has found the balance, we now have attacking potent as well as a solid defence.
Like many people here I am very pleased with out points total and league position at this point of the season but will still settle for survival. Don't get me wrong still think we will finish mid-table around the 50 point mark but don't like being over confident. Team are playing well, with confidence and some style. So proud to be a City supporter living in Mexico (just arrived in the UK for 4 weeks) always get comments when I wear nice my City shirt always positive .Norwich shown almost every week now, either on Fox Sports or ESPN so don't have to watch on the net too often.....................OTBC
Very sensible summary of where we are now and what the future is for us. Could we really challenge for a Champion's League spot - it would be an immense achievement, but IMO, I'd rather just we stay in the Premier League for as long as possible. Totally agree re Hughton being a better manager than Lambert and what is pleasing is to see that more of our 'shots on goal' are actually 'target'.
Even the Telegraph have started talking about Norwich and Europe. Strange how they have gone from underestimating us to overestimating us! I would be happy with 17th and I think qualifying for Europe is almost impossible!
Frankly it is bloody stupid for these people to be even remotely think about Europe Not suggesting it is impossible but until I see where we are in late April next year I am not going to be thinking along those lines. I just don't think we are good enough to finish anywhere near that high (yet).
We don't want to qualify for Europe. Look at the damage it has done to others. And I don't want to play every league game on Sun or Mon As high as we can please,but no Europe.
I completely agree, if Birmingham were not in it last season, they would've been promoted in my opinion. Premier League teams also struggle with it because it stretches a squad so much, without any financial gain. Can you actually reject from participating in the Europa League? Just a thought.
Of course, if miracles of miracles does happen, and we end up top 7 or 8 then we will know for certain that the standard of the PL had taken a dramatic drop in the last 9 months because we will be told that by many, many fans of other clubs
Don't get me wrong, we're not going to qualify for Europe this season. But if we did (and I'm talking about the Europa League here), I'd be delighted. What's the point in being in the Premier League if our sole ambition every year is merely to stay up? For goodness sake, we might as well give these competitions a go while we've got the chance - we're not going to stay in the Premier League forever. England is pretty much the only European country that doesn't treat the Europa League as a big competition, for one reason or another, but maybe it should. I seem to be the only person in this country that thinks it's a great idea. It gives teams that are never going to qualify for the Champion's League a chance to mix it with the rest of the continent, and it gives them a realistic way to do so. I would love European football back at Carrow Road - without it, no-one outside this country would have even heard of us - whenever we're mentioned, we're commended for that night in '93, and the return home leg which are still, of the City fans I know (that were fortunate enough to be alive...) the greatest memories they have of this great club. Yes, the Premier League is important, but I didn't fall in love with football, or Norwich City, because of all the money we had (which, when I started supporting us, was probably in negative figures). I love the club because of all the amazing memories it created for me. As I said, we won't finish 5th this season, but if we did, imagine how incredible that would be - imagine the atmosphere for our first European night at Carrow Road for 20 years, imagine the noise when we score our first European goal, imagine the feeling if, in the round of 32, we drew Inter Milan, or Ajax, or even Bayern Munich again. And we knocked them out again. That'd be pretty incredible to me.
