I've a couple of questions.
How many new players do Liverpool actually need to sign this summer?Should they go for quality instead of quantity?,or buy 6 players 3 for the squad and 3 for the team.
Our overall squad isn't that bad considering that it since 2009 has been significantly eroded and not enough investment has been made in it.I believe that we're not as far behind Man City and Spurs as some would like to believe even though,we've spent £130 million net less than Spurs,Spurs are in the red to the tune of £90 million,Liverpool are in the black to the tune of £40 million.We've spent £200 million net less than Man City since 2009.Okay their money was spent by Mark Hughes who should never ever be let near the transfer market.I reckon if we can get back to an even keel and thats spending approximately £90 million net between now and the summer of 2012,Neither them or even Man United or Chelsea will be able to touch us.However this must be spent wisely.
What do you think?
 
So you think by spend £90m (which you probably dont have) you will over come Utd and Chavski.
I see you will end up buying 3-4 average players, due to not being in the Champions league.

I think we need around 4-5 players. A left-back is a must. Along with 2 wingers. A back-up striker, I believe, is needed. It's going to take 2-3 years to get back to the around the top of the league but we are going in the right direction. The future is very bright indeed.
 
Not necessarily 2-3 years.
I'll use an example.Man Uniteds squad is light-years behind Man Citys.But United are better managed.Good management can speed up the process.It doesn't matter if you have 25 world class players if they don't function as a cohesive unit.Look at how Jay Spearing absolutely murdered James Milner.As for talent there is no contest as argueably Milner is a superior player.But he's mismanaged.
Kenny can speed up the process due to good management.He did it in 1986,Everton had better players,but Kenny had the better team.Okay some people say that the secret to Liverpool winning the title in 1986 was Kenny picking himself.However Alan Hansen said that Liverpools 1986 team was distinctly average to some of the teams he played in ie the 1978/79 team,the 83/84 team and the 1987/88 team.Possibly the nearest to it was the 1981/1982 team.The one that was 13th on new years eve 1981 and won 20 of the next 24 league games and won the title.
Good management plays a part.I reckon that even without new signings at the moment,we're ahead of schedule.

I see, so Suarez is classed as an Average player is he, and us not being in the Champions league had a profound effect on him joining us. We will buy 3-4 average players? Will you provide proof that Dalglish is infact Benitez in disguise? No? Because he isn't. He has demonstrated already he's not afraid of spending big and he won't buy average players either as he knows how to spot talent. As he has proved with the introduction of Flanagan, Robinson, Kelly and Spearing into the first team squad.

Keep up being deluded I think that it is actually you who is deluded, believing that we won't improve in the summer.

There is constant rubbish going on here that Liverpools net spend in January was £2 million.No it wasn't.Retrospective of whether Torres was going or not,Luis Suarez signing was sanctioned by the owners.From what I heard John Henry went mad that more money was not spent.I read a report that he himself phoned Randy Lerner about the availability of Ashley Young.He was turned down.Thats not to say that he won't go back.
John Henry has said that there is certain stipulations that he insisted on that applies to new signings,and price is not one of them.He's more concerned about how they fit into the team,and are better than whats there.Age is also a factor.He could yet sanction a number of signings just to piss people off.He's known for doing it,He did it with the red-sox,He made signings to piss the new york yankees off.

and as we are talking about the next 12 months, so buying Mandy and Suarez (which I agree looks a quality player) does not come into it.

Next year will be the same as this year Utd, Chavs, Arse and Citeh (you can guess the order)
with Dippers and spuds chasing 5th.

Liverpool won't be in the same market for players as United,as Liverpool won't be raiding Portugese slums for players.
Only Ferguson knows the reason why,He paid £8 million for a playe that 2 weeks earlier was available for £125k,and PSV rejected for free.PSV did something Ferguson didn't....They watched him play.
 
I would think he will be looking at 3-4 top quality players and a couple of squad players depending on who he can move out.There has to be a serious clear out of the dross that is around the fringes of the team.
We all know Paulson,N'Gog,Javenovic,Degen,Soto and a few others are nowhere near the standard we need to progress as a club.However,you still need the squad to have sufficient numbers to cover for injuries etc.I am sure Kenny and Cammoli know who they want and I think the funds will be there.They won't shout it from the rooftop as prices will be inflated and ,also,as KK wants to get back to the 'Liverpool way' things will most likely be kept tightly under wraps until a deal is done.
Who will come in..no idea really poss Ashley Young,Cahill or Jones,definately a left back.With the youngsters showing such promise a lot of the problem areas can be filled esp if Kelly can fit in at Centre back as easily as he did at right back.However,they cannot be relied upon all season and if we make the Europa league then that would be a good time to blood them especially in the early group stages.
The signing of Suarez has been brilliant so far.His all round game means Kuyt can play in a more suitable position and we don't have to rely on Gerrard to be the inspiration although I am sure he will be!!
We will only see the best of Carroll when he is completely match fit and we have someone to supply the crosses he thrives on.
It's a mouthwatering prospect and I think we will be a match for anyone providing we get the balance right in away games.Monday night against Fulham will be intreresting..not the happiest of hunting grounds for us.
 
I'll think they'll definitely be one out of the blue, like Carroll. Ok, there were a few whispers but everyone expected us to bid in the summer, if at all. Similar with Meireles. One day there's a mention in the Guardian or Independent (one of the papers that don't fill their sports section with weak rumours, anyway) and then the next day the deal is done.
 
Signing Suarez was definitely the old Liverpool way of doing things.It was a masterstroke.He's made for Liverpool.He's back to what we were signing in the 80s.
For someone that is brutally strong,He's got unbelievable balance.Not only that,He's got so much energy.He hunts the ball down,and never stops moving.
I heard a story once that when he comes back from international duty,He doesn't turn up for training on time,He turns up early.He's definitely a Kenny Dalglish type player.And he's had a wonderful influence on Dirk Kuyt.Dirk Kuyt now has an end product.

Of course I know what probably means, the fact remains you made moronic assumptions based on nothing. "Probably" doesn't change that at all.

back to the op, i'd like to think we go for 2 quality players (winger and left back) and a few good youngsters as squad players e.g. wickham, lukaku, chamberlain, smithies, butland etc. and yes im very optimistic :)
 
Are Wickham and Chamberlin actually that good? I've only seen each of them play about twice and I wasn't that impressed with them. There was similar hype over Victor Moses too and he is hardly setting the world alight at Wigan now that he has got his big move.

Think we have better in the reserves.Although Wickham looks like he has great potential.
