Thankfully yes Spurlock and we are 4th. That's where I'm happy to be and certainly no lower but with performances like that who knows? Chelsea are third through luck and we are 4th through luck. I just wish we could put some confident performances together. Defoe missed some good chances today and they had chances to score. All in all though with Swansea winning at Arsenal(hee hee hee) we shouldn't be too disappointed with a win however close.
i wish it was a bit easier viewing too...but as your last sentence points out..we cant grumble..Swansea are a good outfit. p.s good to show some Aggression and bite aswell..ask Michu
I like your last sentence too Spurlock as I too like aggression but not so much as to poleaxe another player. Well,Chelsea have some tough fixtures ahead including the ascendent Aston Villa and this COULD be our chance to overtake them.
How was that lucky? They literally didn't have a shot on target. Nice to see Lloris branching out into boxing: please log in to view this image
24 shots with 16 on target? thats intent to me. joint 3rd..come on!!! Toress looks back to his sulky best so that should be a plus aswell. i didnt think he got him properly..or Michu would have been asleep.
No reason for negativity today boys! Swansea came with a negative game plan and are a tight competent unit so were never going to be easy to break down. The fact that we showed patience and other than the last 2 mins of added time (where the **** did that come from???) we never looked liked conceding was a huge plus. We played the ball around well and created a few chances. Gallas and Verts were excellent and also personally think that AVB may have played a blinder in putting Caulks and Sigs on the bench: psychologically sending Swansea a message that two of their best players from last term can't even make the first 11. Downsides? possible foot (or hamstring?) injury to Ade. Once again he showed his worth - his hold up play was excellent and he brings others back into the play. Also, can't wait for Benny to get back - no offence to Naughton, but play grinds to a halt down the left when he gets the ball. 3 points next weekend against Stoke and we will certainly enjoy Xmas!! Oh - one last thing - what a complete KNOB that Chico Flores is.....
Lloris punched the ball and caught Michu with the soft part of his upper arm. Seems the impact on the deck is what knocked him out. That was perfectly fair.
Not sure anyone thought otherwise Thor - it was a really strong, decisive piece of keeping. Just wish he was as decisive closer to his line. Not sure that his calling is that clear.....
I thought some outside of the Spurs fold thought otherwise Relayer. So it's Stoke next and I would hope a 2-0 or a 3-0. We too have Villa soon along with Chelsea and I'm showing them more respect. If they get a result against Chelsea we'll have to be on our toes. Chelsea have Everton and Norwich which will both be VERY difficult for them. Oh come on you spurs.
Yeh PNP., a good right hand ., this was more a 'cuff' than a 'box punch' ,....... but the boy has potential.
1. Nothing wrong with the Lloris challenge. Didn't punch him at anyway! 2. Goal wasn't offside as he was in line. 3. The game wasn't nearly as close as the scoreline suggests. They didn't have a meaningful shot all game and I lost count of the number of last ditch tackles and interceptions their defence managed - good defending for sure, but you can never count on getting away with that. Having said that their Captain was excellent and deserved MoM.
It most be you Relayer, I thought he looked more like Leonard 'Miss Jones' Rossiter from Rising Damp.
Speaking of resemblances, Relayer., what about Vertonghen and AVB,. theys more then a slight semblance there too imo., .
Good result. Should've scored more. Don't think 442 works well when you're trying to out pass a team. No point playing 2 strikers but not letting them both play as strikers either. Townsend looked great when he came on. Swansea were crap.
I thought it was much better, not great, still some weird stuff happening, bring on Townsend, and leave him on the right where he looked predictable. When I saw it coming I thought good, some width, stretch their fullbacks out to the touchlines, they're too solid through the middle today...but no, lets get the wingers to swap their natural side and cut into the middle...where we've had loads of joy so far! That out the way, a frustrating hour exposing our inept final incisive pass, or first touch that looks like boot and ball are fitted with magnets that repel! and there was no room for fast sweeping football. Swansea limited us to our weak point of slow build up play, we just don't work the triangles like we used too. However, an achilles heel in the past, a set piece, is now a plus point and unlocked the door where all else has failed. I think the additions of JV and Caulker are the best threats we've had for a while, (I know SC didn't play just included him in the point). That and the least nervous end to a game for a while, which was a vast improvement, there was also plenty of energy and desire to put pressure on the ball still, when Swansea had it during the last 10. But, because it wasn't end to end, it was a game that required less energy overall in my view. Swansea set out a gameplan not involving open play and were very good at it, but we found a way past. It had nil-nil all over it for a large part, so we've done well to take a very important 3pts instead of 1. Pleased with the result, but its only a 7/10 mark from me.
Predictable maybe, but actually thought Townsend did really well when he came on. Ran hard at them a couple of times, winning a feee kick or two and held the ball well as the clock was ticking. Also not sure why the 'odd sides' but don't think Townsend should be blamed for that.
