I always think that Simpson looks a bit lost playing upfront in this system by himself, he's more suited to being a winger in my opinion and does lack the scoring instinct of someone like Hernandez for example. I thought we was crying out for a change upfront at half time to be honest, but there you go. I also think that we have two of the best wingers in the league in Elmo and Robbie but because they are having to do so much work playing as wing backs all the time after 50/60 minutes they are always tired out!!
Somehow managed to avoid the Prem scores today, interesting if Campbell did score because according to a few on here he is not good enough for us anymore despite Bruce thinking he is
He's good enough. But if he is going to insist on playing 1 up front then he is the complete opposite player to what we need...
Team is spoilt by playing Simmo up front on his own, Koren played mostly in midfield. Simmo needed another striker up front with him. His work rate is exceptional and his goal return for games played is ok. He's scored 6 in 19 just over a goal every 3 games - which is great. If you have a pair of strikers that can average 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 goals a game that's a decent attack.
I've not always been Cairneys biggest fan but I was well impressed with him when he made his return as sub today. I was expecting the usual sideways passing off him but he was very positive and made himself available in space all the time. A very good 'new man' in the squad.
how anyone can defend Simpson is beyond me been absolute garbage for weeks now , not good enough and never will be , and what is more alarming is he is getting the nod instead of prossy ????? is the german really that bad ?
Simpson is a decent championship striker. Bruce must be frustrated that Proschwitz hasn't settled in YET. We need an excellent championship striker in Jan Bruce will sort it.
He isn't garbage at all. Is that because he hasn't scored 20 plus goals so far? That's not his game, he's a secondary striker, so in a strike partnership you generally have a striker with 20 goals - Simmo is the support striker and he'll finish the season on 10-15 goals. That doesn't make him garbage, he created the second goal today by putting it on a plate for Meyler.
If we had someone making a run to the near post yesterday, we would have scored 20. Simpson does a great job at holding the ball up - he often seems to be very isolated though. At least one of our midfielders should always be busting a gut to support him.
Simpson will not get 15 goals on current form he would struggle to get to ten , and clearly Bruce isn't convinced otherwise we wouldn't be getting linked with every striker under the sun !
Simmo's goals are drying up as I suspected they would - I too thought they game was ripe for bringing the big German on in the closing stages but reckon SB decided to stick with what we had and close the game out.. as it was Simmo made the second goal and that seems to be his big asset. When Aluko returns he needs to be paired with Simmo anyway.
Simpsons doing a great job for us,he's played nearly every game this season and were three points off the top. His assist yesterday was perfection, and we'd really miss his hold up play. He's not a 20 a season type stiker but if we had one of those along side him,he would be the perfect foil.
Someone with sense! Our midfield is strong. I'd rather have Simpson holding the ball up and bringing them into play than a lone Proschwitz that hasn't found his feet yet. Without some of the build up play that Jay provides some of these crosses wouldn't be coming in in the first place. His assist yesterday was sublime and he's still young with improvements to come. He's an asset and the table doesn't lie.
