You could see why the guy has reffed a WC final today. He got everything right. When that Huddersfield defender went down in the north-west corner with Quinn behind him, he was obviously looking for a cheap free kick to get out of having to defend it. Quinn was a good yard or two behind him so it clearly wasn't a foul but any other Championship ref would have given it but Webb had the confidence to give what he saw which was nothing so played it on. We got two yellow cards but we actually got value for them today. Both clumdy tackles worthy of cards, as was their booking. None of this booking for every foul nonsense. Not sure exactly what happened with Bruce, hearing Lee elbowed him spontaneously at the final whistle and he pushed him in reaction. Had to go I guess but all seemed a bit stupid and avoidable to me.
Best referee we've had at the KC this year by a mile for me, got pretty much everything right for me, hppefully football league show will show the Chester tackle again, that looked like a penalty to me.
He was so good in the sense you didn't know it was Howard Webb. He didn't make it about him, he let play go on, yet knew when to bring it back. He just knew the game so much better than any other referee i have seen, class above.
Brilliant referee, absolutely fantastic decisions. He realised it was a Yorkshire Derby and didn't make harsh decisions and was the correct man for the job today. Massey didn't get anything wrong IMO and was actually a better linesman than the one who had the West Stand side. Great to see decisions go more in our favour for once!
Massey is a great lino from what I've seen. I follow womens womens football quite a lot and nice to see a few officials now, no reason why they can't do it, can't ever see a woman playing in the mens game though
After the early mistake where she flagged for Huddersfield on a clear City throw, which she was over ruled by Webb on, she was fine. Webb was great. Wish we could have him every week.
Bollocks. Quinn clipped his heels, all be it accidentally but we would have gone mental if the other way round. ****e decision.
Add to the comments about Howard Webb being great. Got pretty much everything right, game under complete control, didn't step a foot wrong for me. You can see why he refereed the World Cup final and champions league final.
I thought Webb had a poor game today. Stopped the play in the first half when we had advantage and going forward to give us a freekick 30 yards back. Missed the trip on Quinn first half. Missed the Lee elbow on Bruce. Too eager to get his red card out on Bruce. Didn't even talk to one of theirs who chopped down Quinn who was on route into the box, second half.....Gave them a silly free kick on about 72 min when one of their fell over with the City player about a yard behind him. His hands go in the air so it has to be a free kick. Poor today was Webb.
Best ref at the KC for a long time. As already said, you can see why he has refereed Champions League finals, FA Cup finals and a World Cup final.
That one in the first half? Looked like a half-arsed attempt at a dive to me. You can tell a lot by the reaction, no Huddersfield player bothered saying anything to the ref while a few of ours were angry at the lad who went down and he just sat on the floor for a bit and didn't even appeal. The thing for me is that he doesn't do what people want him to. So many refs seem to feel obliged to give free kicks in situations like the one I mentioned in the first post but Webb just gives it as he sees it, and like the rest of us see it too. Quinn was miles behind him, it was just typical championship cheating like most away teams in this league do. We got a man sent off and no one is moaning about that. I remember that advantage thing but he immediately realised his mistake and apologised to our players. Can't ask for much more than that, no one's asking for perfection just common sense. Not sure about the other incidents you mentioned though.
Boring!! Qiunny clipped his heels, simple as that. Webb should have given a free kick. Terrible decision. As the bloke who allowed a 6 studs into the chest in a WC final get over yourself he's not perfect.
We get **** refs nearly every week who just do what whichever anti-football away team we're playing wants them to do, I don't think it's unreasonable to give a a bit of credit when we get a decent ref who just lets the game flow and gives what he sees.
Boring. He was wrong it was a **** decision and right in front of me. We woulda gone mental if given against us.
He had a good game IMO, a couple of soft free kicks for pushes, but thats football as a whole I guess. Just out of interest at what level does an old fashioned shoulder barge/Push become a foul?
It was right near me to, it wasn't a foul...... He isn't perfect, but the best referee we have had this season by a million miles.
He let so many arm lead challenges go, elbows and playing the man in the air became the norm, probably his inability to get on top of this that left the Huddersfield player feeling it was OK to assault Alex Bruce - Oh he missed that too.
As i said previously it wasnt a foul he clipped his heel by accident but it would be given 99/100 as a foul. We woulda gone mental the other way.
I dont see where the complaints are coming from? He let the game flow and be a proper game of football and no stopping/starting. Plenty of advantages played, warnings given, suitable bookings. The fact he didnt have our crowd on his back and went un-noticed shows what a good job he did.
