what a load of tosh.... football is about fans (the people who bring vibrance, life enthusiasm and MONEY into a club) , not wannabe supremos who dictate to us how they spend it or not spend it in our case, and in many, many posts i've written i've always said all clubs should play to a budget, and the only way to do that is let the supporters run the clubs, give them the say, let them be the share holders, in our case that could run to 5000 or 6000, the only clubs that don't play to a budget are the ones that are owned by so called "business men" like Ridsdale and company directorates as at PFC and teams like Port Vale, Bournemouth, as you have mentioned. And what has Rowland spent really on the face of it "bugger all", wheres our youth set up? the life and blood of any football team ?, and Weale, Parry, Rodgers isn't exactly splashing the cash for what crowds we have been getting for the last three year's, and also our bounty for promotion and transfers etc, he also lets good players go instead of paying them league one wages!!..., of course PFC fans will bask in there clubs glory its only natural, but to see the team or any team get punished when its the fault of its owners, who haven't been voted in by the fans get away scott free when the club is punished is ludicrous!! ...When we won promotion last season i expected us to build on what we had, instead the better players were allowed to leave and GT has lost all sense of direction as shown with this influx of poor quality loan players, at the very least i expected us to be comfortable and competitive for next season, but it looks like we will be going down in our first attempt, that's if you don't get your wish and most of our competition goes out of business of course... you said .."True fans will stand by their club as it builds a sustainable base"...well, we've lost about 1200 now!! ...
pompey like the shrews are too good to go down. both have reasonable goal differences, and both should begin climbing the league, pompey need points asap to offset any -10 points. exeter city is an excellent example of a club being run by its fans, whereas stfc are a great example of a club run as a succesful business by roland and his board. yes roland is no spring chicken, and when the time comes for him to sell up, let us hope he sells to somebody with equally good business acumen and a genuine regard for the future of his great club. i have read tinned hats further rant and am speechless. yes gates will fall off before christmas, but wait until january with a spiced up squad, goalfests and hotpies, the meadow will be brimming with support. good luck pompey in your climb up the league, please show town the way!
Tinned hats your model is merely a Utopian dream. It has been a conspicuous failure at Ebbsfleet with substantial interest to start with but now dwindling markedly which corresponds to their performance on the playing field. Supporters trusts are a different matter but they really come in to play as a fail safe after financial failure at the club involved. I would far rather the current set up at Shrewsbury and if the time comes for RW to sell up where do you suppose a supporters trust would raise the £10 million plus to buy him out? As for paying League 1 wages, I would assume we do commensurate to our turnover. You see what happens with Swindon when they sailed close to the wind and had a transfer embargo slapped on them.
yep lets HOPE so, the club future is never in our hands, instead its run by a an old man who will sell our club to the highest bidder with little consideration for the supporters, and if you say " RW will only sell to a buyer with the best interest of the club", don't kid yourselves..he's a businessman through and through.... and dont kid yourself either AJ, gates are dropping because we are near the bottom of the league!
I do like the way that the fans and managers of other clubs are in the know regarding "wages" paid to our players. Can I take from this that you (and they other they's) have the kind of influence with the administrator that even the supporters trust doesn't have? The only thing we do know, from the man who gave Buzaky a 1 month contract, Michael Appleton, is that he was playing purely for his expenses and using it as an opportunity to stay match fit to get a contract elsewhere - which is exactly what has happened.
It was an assumption that a player who had rejected a contract from a big-spending premiership club would not come cheap. Quite a reasonable one, whatever Appleton may have said - he was the same man complaining very publicly about his wage budget being cut from £4m to £1.5m a year - still more than we pay, despite being on a sound financial footing.
That's the trouble with assumptions - they seem reasonable to the person making them, but suddenly they become facts for other people to quote. The only fact is that the club is being run/managed by a court appointed administrator who, legally, is not allowed to incur any further debt. Yesterday we found out 3 more facts, 1) that a few of the fans (known to have a few quid) have been underwriting the cash-flow since October, 2) the supporters trust don't know yet how much the wages are for each of the players and coaching staff, but that the wages being quoted are wide of the mark, and 3) that the sponsorship and catering contracts agreed with the previous board do not bring in any income. Anyway, as far as Buzaky is concerned, you should read the article by The Secret Footballer about wages this season - quite a few players ended up with reduced contracts, and Buzaky sounds as though he fell into that trap.
3rd Eye, Pull the other one - it has got bells on. You cannot be serious in implying that players like Mcleod and Thomas are or have been playing for Pompey for very little when they have both turned down numerous offers from various other clubs in and around league 1. How a club in League 1 can be be many millions of pounds in debt and still be playing on is an absolute mystery and you cannot expect to get off scot free from the excesses of the past.
Tinned Hats, I think you are a bit pessimistic - perhaps understandably so because we have had a pretty miserable season so far. I trust the Chairman and the manager who I believe are both honourable and capable men to lead us out of this spot of bother. I cannot believe that the Chairman would sell out to someone he did not know and trust - that would go against everything he has done in all the time he has been at the club. I have been a Shrews fan for over fifty years but I have never had any interest in trying to run the club - I, like many others, support the club by attending as many games as I can and shouting my support to any player wearing the blue and amber. I will stick to my own job and leave the running of the club to people who know what they are doing.
I'm not a pessimist more of a realist, It sounds very much like you are burying your head in the sand, this happens to lots of clubs every season, PFC is a typical example of this , the only ones that are bulletproof are the clubs that are owned by their own supporters and trusts and have a say in the running of their club and destiny. If the unthinkable does happen and we are relegated and our and gates drop back down to 3000, crowds will naturally vent their anger on management. Management decide they have had enough, then want out and sell to somebody who's interests aren't better served for the good of the club......and our hands(the true supporter) are tied, we just have to go with the flow with no voice whatsoever! look whats happened at Hereford, Bury, Vale, then look at the emerging fan owned clubs like Chester, Wrexham,Exeter,Newport County,Swansea City and AFC Wimbledon, and even one of the most famous clubs in the world Barcelona FC, why put our trust one aged individual and hope "he does the right thing"?.
A supporters trust does not necessarily guarantee the club wil remain solvent or in the hands of the supporters. The Notts County supporters trust gave up their shares to Munto and this brought the club to the verge of bankruptcy. The supporters did not have the wherewithall to bail them out. It was left to a moneyed individual with no connection to the club to save them
Tinned Hats, I think you should lighten up a bit in this season of good cheer. Even if we go down (which I do not think we will do) we will still have a viable club with a decent chance of a further promotion rather than your doomsday scenario. Why dont you trust two men who have served the club very well over many years? GT did not get where he is today (as one of very few who are still managers in their sixties) by not learning from his mistakes and I am confident we will have a much improved side in the second half of the season.
To be fair to Notts they had gone too far in the mire to rescue themselves, and should have gone down the Chester route and reemerged as a new club, painful but better in the long run. But the odds are far stacked in the favor of 5 or 6 thousand fans owning the club than just an individual or company, and as you say meadowman hopefully we wont go down, but how ironic it could be because of clubs who's masters have let the supporters down and put their club near bankruptcy and have points deducted off them !!....you have to admit yourself too that RW 85 ys old and GT 65 yrs old are coming to the end of their natural life, wouldn't it be a good gesture on RW part (thats if he loves the club so much) to hand over to a supporters trust?....never mind, a good win at Bury tomorrow night might put me back in the Christmas spirit
How so would Notts have been better off going down the Chester route? Munto's fictional money had put them on the brink of promotion somewhat unfairly, but they were bought by Ray Trew and debts cleared enabling them to complete promotion. They now are on a sound financial footing and in a position to challenge for promotion to the Championship.
Tinned Hats, I appreciate your passion for the club and very much agree that a few good results over the holiday period will put us all in the festive spirit!
