Alright, Being to the game today and Simpson started again didn't do much, missed chances and doesn't look like he can latch onto elmo's balls. Why will Bruce not start Proschwitz? Haven't seen him play a decent amount of football since brighton and when he does come on he holds it up well and gets in behind the defenders instead of dropping off. Also an aerial threat off elmo's balls. So why doesn't he try him? (but not with McLean) Cheers
Simpson has lost his early season form. Apart from the last few minutes when he set up the 2nd goal, he was poor.
The game did seem to be crying out for Prozzy to come on. But whilst we're winning, I'm not going to complain about Bruce's subs or team selections.
Last time he started against Boro he was shocking, absolutely shocking. Think Bruce sees he needs more time which he really does. Admittedly we need a striker, however i think Simpson is more stuied to playing on the last man and getting on the end of low fast crosses. Prossy would slow our play down massively, and at times its like palying with 10 men. Thats not his fault but just the system we have currently.
I don't think Simpson was terrible today, his link-up and hold-up play were very good and he only had one clear cut chance which he mis-hit, but it was a bit behind him and he ended up off balance trying to reach it so I don't really blame him. The concern for me is the crosses, Koren got on the end of one of them but apart from that it seemed like only Simpson was even in the box just surrounded by defenders who cleared it easily every time. I don't know whether to blame Simpson for not finding space or other players for not flooding the area. We started to do that a bit more later on and it resulted in a couple of penalty area melees which came to nothing. I just don't think we have a goalscoring instinct in the team at all. Maybe playing Proschwitz would help that, I don't know.
This is the biggest margin we've won by for a while now and the striker in question set up the second goal... I don't know what more the poor lad has to do. He's been scoring fairly regularly this season and looks to finally be enjoying himself after being unused and loaned out for a couple of seasons on the bounce. Give him a break, if anyone it's Proschwitz that's unproven and a greater risk to be starting for us at the moment.
Proschwitz needs to improve and show Bruce that he's good enough. He's obviously not doing it in training.
Jay is a quality all-rounder who brings in others, he might not have the finishing of Fryatt but he's doing well
Simmo didnt score. Bruce was going mental on the sidelines. Prossy is windy unfortunately, he need to show he can take the knocks. SB wants Campbell, need i say more...
I never saw the game, although I have seen the goals and they were just the tonic; the assists were just as good as the finishing. This NickP/Simpson debate is understandable but pointless, as SB will pick his best starting eleven and thnak god he does because we are winning and with a little room to spare. I see Campbell scored today; just about puts that one to bed then!
19 games 5 goals that is hardly prolific...... He miss hit two, he should of passed one to Elmo who was through, he smashed one over bar when in good position. He hasn't looked like scoring for a while now, and he really does lack confidence. Its clear where Elmo's balls are going to go, Simpson just doesn't look to be getting on the end of them currently. No-one can deny our goals upfront are an issue. Just Prossy isn't the answer.
I think It must have been hard for SB to make a sub today, at 1 nil we looked the better team, But Huddersfield did on occasion look threatening going forward. So if he'd have brought Prozzy on it might have opened up a chance for them. Simpson didn't do bad IMO but It wont win him a regular 1st team spot. I felt Koren Faded slightly in the 2nd half which made Simmo look a bit isolated. I think today proves our need for a new striker in January.
Simpson already has a regular first team spot though... He's earning it. I do agree we need to be more prolific because we'll end up being punished in some games over the rest of the season. We'll need a striker in January to stake our claims at promotion however as Proschwitz needs more time before properly finding his feet here. I don't think he should be starting games at the moment though because we're winning and you shouldn't try to fix what isn't broken.
I was disappointed that Proschwitz didn't come on, Simpson did okay, but there were so many many balls into the box that were wasted as there was no-one getting on to them. Huddersfield are a just a bunch of dirty talentless hoofers, we should have put more than two past them, Gerrard was their only decent defender.
Or their keeper. Despite being relatively slow to save our shots, he kept them out apart from the two sitters anybody could've scored.
