When Bob Paisley was Liverpool manager, he had as many as 10 captains. Every player with the exception of Terry McDermott could captain Liverpool. I would like to see us go back to that. Okay it may not be possible to have that many, but we could have at least 4. Reina, Skrtel, Lucas and Gerrard. Big strong characters that can lead by example or lead with their voices.
If someone can lead by example, then it would be Suarez. Always harrassing defenders, works hard for the team and is the main attacking point. He's not shy either ...
Pepe would be the obvious choice...starts every game... very respected... is very vocal and demands perfection... ...and is bald... that is why jean-luc was so much more respected and more of a leader than kirk.

Hmm not too keen on GK's being captains in general, although Reina does have the respect of his teammates and is quite vocal. Would prefer someone who is more involved in the action and can inspire, either by making a crunching tackle to win the ball or producing a momeny of magic.
why didn't he kick them into some shape on saturday then? collective failure i think. its not like gerrard didn't badger dowd on the second pen.. the first was stone wall. after that why didn't rodgers get some shape back at 0-2 and hold it at that rather than give up more chances and another goal... game chasing or was it really just us falling apart?
I agree about not having a keeper as captain but the advantage for a keeper is that they see everything that is happening. Personally, I'd leave the armband with Gerrard so long as he earns his place in the side, it is only if he fails to do this that a new captain is required. Hopefully, that does not mean 'pick Carragher because Gerrard's not playing'
all joking aside you do need someone who's a protected england international and can run 60 yards to gob in the refs face every few mins to ensure you get the "rub of the green" There's nothing worse than seeing 6 utd players gobbing all over a ref for a throw or corner is there... but then why do they get the "rub of the green" eh? EH? or how about chelsea... precisely the same story.
True ... IMO - you don't just become a leader or change your whole attitude just because someone has given you an armband to wear. You will act like a leader regardless. Again, this is a reason why Lucas and Suarez would be great shouts because they always work hard for the team.
In all reality does it matter who is captain... does it really change much? If Charlie Adam were made captain would we play any worse. Any player can complain or call out directions and suggestions and any player can heed or ignore.
Exactly what I said regarding England, the only difference is the captain joins in the coin toss and possibly lifts a trophy (obviously not with England)

No it doesn't make much difference, at least not as much as having vocal leaders, and that is something you need all over the pitch, particularly at club like ours that is undergoing a transition!
After seeing Villa stroll through our team at times today we definitely need a Roy Keane type leader who isn't afraid to tell anybody off for being ****e and knock a few heads together. He doesn't even have to be that good. Just a crazy bastard who likes a tackle and isn't afraid of anyone with a big reputation e.g. Suarez/Gerrard/Reina.
Actually we do; but nobody would want him as captain. I only see one guy giving it all trying anything, including the disgustingly nasty that Keane occasionally resorted to; giving players around him bollockings, has the ability to aspire to; isn't shagging a granny or his brothers wife but goes home & lives a good family life with his wife. I'll not mention his name. But no lets keep the guy that is living on his 12 games he took by the cuff, two of which were at the top of the comps. Thankful for those 2.... Lets not talk about how quietly he allowed manager after manager to take the flack, then he's yet again handed the armband because he's "the man" and yet again he stops & stands & its obviously everybody else's fault he's not as sharp as he was, quick as he was, 90 minute as he was. Quelle Suprise! No change in balls on our pitch eh? I felt sorry for him carrying the team 6 years ago: the moment he turned Chelsea down? He'd his career path set. Captain fantastic of the mediocre. Sorry: winning teams have their heroes: but they're rarely there standing still in a losing team match after match. I came out with the "who else?" Argument a few weeks ago: no more; done.
