    The amendment should be amended.

It's not like that law has never changed. Assault weapons were banned between 1994 and 2004. It can hopefully happen again under Obama, but will the ban just be lifted every time a Republican president is elected? It's a ridiculous country sometimes.

Yeah, it should, but it won't happen unfortunately.

Obama is in favour of the 2nd amendment Joe. He is a warmonger like the rest of US politicians.

Tragic, tragic waste of life...this has everything to do with the obsession with firearms in the USA...you see it in american movies and tv shows the use of guns is used as entertainment to such an extent that it has desensitized the use of firearms and almost made it 'glamourous'. I don't go with the argument that a killer would use other methods of mass murder if the gun wasn't available, the gun remotes yourself from the victim in a way that is impersonal and is unique in that respect, it is a cowardly and easy way of murder, I just don't believe that it is possible to commit mass murder with any other weapon (apart from a bomb). RIP all the victims of this senseless crime and I truly hope that the gun laws in the USA get reviewed now.

There's a lot wrong with that comment. Firstly, a ban on assault weapons wouldn't be contradictory to the 2nd Amendment. People would still be allowed to own an assortment of non-automatic handguns and rifles. Secondly, Obama is not a "warmonger" at all. The President is not a dictator and is not capable of starting and ending wars as he pleases. He has stated his desire to bring an end to the current conflict many times, but it's a very difficult thing to do.

Just read the tweets Piers Morgan is getting from Americans says it all, I don't like the guy but he talks a lot of sense about guns.

It's still odds on for England to win the Test series. India just don't have the time to build a substantial lead and then bowl out England on such a slow scoring pitch...It's England's to lose and they will have to bat very poorly in the second innings for an Indian win...my money is on the draw.

It's a long tail though, Jadeja can bat quickly, Ashwin can really play too.
Piyush Chawla used to play for Sussex and I've seen what he can do. Loves to tonk it about.

I believe that when any person talks about getting rid of guns, in a country that seems to want more and more of them, to solve their problems, then that person is the only one with their mind fixed solely on the problem. No backchat, no bull****. Just get rid of them. Every last single, freely available, one of them, if possible. If they want gun clubs or licenses for necessary or special usage, then let them have them. There would be the smallest fraction of the things left.

Pro-gun people will always say, with pseudo-sage words, that guns are not dangerous, only certain people holding them. Well a stone, brick or even a car isn't dangerous. They were not designed to harm or kill, yet they could if one propelled them fast enough at a live target. Guns are actually designed to harm or kill. That is their prime purpose. Offshoots like target pistols, Very pistols and air-guns, might be used for other purposes but, in the main, guns are designed to kill and many models are extremely efficient at doing so.

People will say, you'll never be able to get all of them. OK, maybe not. There will be those that are held back by people with that ridiculous cold dead hand attitude. There will be those forgotten about, left in cellars, drawers and cupboards, storage, etc. But what if the authorities got rid of 90% of them..? Is that not a desirable outcome..? They have to close down the gun shops. They have to take the guns out of easy circulation, and as a country, the USA has to start losing its heroic, comic book, cartoon style, filmic, violent association with the gun.

Melt them all, stop stigmatising mental health problems and provide better and easier access to mental health support. Not easy to do, but if it stops just one more event like yesterday then it's worth doing.
