This thread is to discuss all managers linked with Manchester United, with a view to replacing Sir Alex Ferguson when he retires.

The Mirror says Sir Alex Ferguson will spend next week in New York, after Saturday's game against Sunderland, to conduct business in the Big Apple relating to his role as the club's ambassador to the Americas.

Sir Alex's visit to New York provides a possibility of meeting with Guardiola, who is believed to want the Old Trafford job when Sir Alex retires.

Do you guys think Guardiola can replicate his Barcelona success at Manchester United?

Ifan, good idea for a thread but it has been done to death recently which is why you're not getting much joy.

In brief, I think it will be Guardiola but am not 100% happy about that. Still have a few little doubts.

Think if pushed I'd say my own first choice is David Moyes. Ready to take the next stpe I reckon and would follow the Fergie blueprint.

Mourinho would give us a no doubt successful three or four year rollercoaster but he just isn't a United manager for me. I like the arrogant **** but I'm just not convinced he's our man.

    Just no mate.
IMO, i'd put the smart money on Jose Mourinho to succeed Sir Alex.

...He needs to lose the ego firstly, then I'd happily accept him really.

Mourinho has the be the only choice.

Not convinced on Guardiola. I'd like to see him achieve something without him inheriting arguably the most talented collection of players ever seen at club level. Also, the reason he went on this year long hiatus was because he was "tired". The goldfish bowl at Old Trafford is just as intense, if not more than that at the Nou Camp. Would he be off on another break after a couple of years? He's only 41. How can he be "tired" already? I question his staying power.

Mourinho, although has had a few clubs now, he's had massive success with all of them, and has said in the next few years he wants to move to a club where he can stay long term and build something special. That "us against the world" mentality he instils in so many clubs would be perfect for us, and I think he's mentally strong and intelligent enough to handle it.

Don't understand these calls for Moyes. He would be totally out of his depth at United. What has he won? Unless you think keeping Everton in the Premiership season after season is tantamount to being qualified to manage the biggest club in the world, then he's done nothing to prove he belongs here. The only reason people put him forward is because they "see Fergie in him". The only thing they've got in common is they're from Scotland. Have you seen the criminal football they play? Their reliance of using Fellaini as nothing more than a battering ram is shameful. We would be nuts to even contemplate taking him. Having a "lack of funds" is no excuse for playing such football. Swansea and Wigan aren't the wealthiest, yet play the game in the right way. A good manager, but not United level. Maybe 'Pool can use him to get back into the top 4 <laugh>

Also think Fergie will have some say as to who replaces him. He'd opt for Jose all day <ok>

Mourinho would be good but I suspect that the owners and management would be worried bout his ego. His ego is part of the package. He loses it and he becomes Grant or Dimateo.

You need a man who is able but also confident of his ability and able to command the loyalty and respect of his players. United will always have multi million pound players with massive egos, the manager will need to be likewise and with enough credibility. When the player says " show me your f**king medals " how does Moyes respond?

Man Utd, need to look at a manager carrying on what Ferguson has built, and want somebody long term. The only man for me is David Moyes.

By the way think it will be easy for you tomorrow. Looks like we could have Johnson, Rose and possibly Fletcher out.
