Jeez your as old as......... Btw the '14' were on the special but other modes of transport like the day train, coaches and cars actually existed back in the day.
I think the point was that there was only 14 who had the bottle to get on the Special mate, due to what was waiting at the other end....
It was a wise move, the specials to London had coppers on, there was coppers in Euston but as you might remember once you went on the underground there was no police presence. Like a special i went to Leeds on around about the same time only had about 150 on it and it was fun and games all the way to the ground with no escort, the away end was full but most went by coach, it was all about self preservation in those days Boots.
