Yes but when you have a manager that has so much control over a club, then it may cause some conflicts.
Maybe we should do another vote, a few weeks after the January transfer window closes. Sometimes it's the worst time to vote when a team has a dip in form. Allow Wenger to do something during this period and see what happens. I think either way, it would make for some interesting viewing.
I bet very few if any directors of football are ex managers of the club.I'm old enough to remember Matt Busby leaving Man Utd and Bill Shankly leaving Liverpool.Busby hung around and Man Utd struggled for years whilst Shankly just left.It was a seemless transition for Liverpool from Shankly to Paisley and the success continued.
Spurs fan in peace. I think you cant pin your hopes on a Jan transfer window, the top top players are rarely available and if they are, there are some hugely inflated prices out there. I think he will buy young again in the transfer window and look to do most of his business in the summer. I also find it strange that a member of your board would come out and disclose the size of your transfer kitty, so I would be surprised if this is accurate. Will the board give AW money to spend if they are not 100% sure he is the man to take them forward? It will certainly be an interesting few months at Arsenal.
Quite a few here seem to be doing that. When was the last time Arsenal or any other team did any significant business during this period?
As a Spurs fan I'd rather he stayed. Things aren't likely to improve fast under Wenger and with the current board but a new manager with fresh ideas could. It'd be a risk and probably sink or swim for the new man, Hell you might even go through a few managers before you get the one you need, but as long as Wenger stays Arsenal will continue to stagnate whilst rivals strengthen off signing your best players. Wenger deserves a lot of credit for keeping you in the top 4 in this trophyless period(especially with the rise of City) and without much to spend to replace several key players. The Wenger way is becoming stagnant though, other teams in the league are already starting to play passing, possession football better than Arsenal, his signings are hit and miss and waiting for promising youth players to come through is becoming desperation rather than ambition. Wenger doesn't deserve to be sacked, or pursuaded out or anything like that but then neither did Hughton when he got the boot at Newcastle or RDM at West Brom but they made the change got a new man in and with hindsight they made the right choice. It'd be interesting to see how Wenger does if he leaves at the end of the season. There's no doubt he's achieved great things with Arsenal but it's not an easy thing to replicate at another set up, sometimes managers end up at clubs that are just the right fit for them and sometimes they end up at clubs which are the opposite, like Rafa at Inter or Scolari at Chelsea.
That does'nt really make sense because despite 'not challenging for the title anymore' we still finish above Tottenham EVERY season under Wenger. If I were a Spurs fan I would want Wenger to leave in the hope we made bad decision with the replacement. As an Arsenal fan I hope Spurs continue their strategy when it comes to managers.
I remember when Arsenal didn't need to console themselves by looking over the fence at Spurs. As much as you pretend to find joy in our misfortune I think it hurts a lot more to see your own team on the way down with little to cheer about. Spurs fans on the otherhand have plenty to be cheery about, we've been improving steadily over the years and have a quality squad, worlds apart from that of a decade or so ago when we were a proper midtable side. You might think AVB's a clown or a crap choice but he's shown in these early days that he can compete and even outperform Arsene. It could all still go wrong for him and us but I wouldn't rely on it as one of your few sources of joy based on the early evidence.
AVB is a good manager. I told my Spurs mate to have patience and he'd come good as he was very disappointed with him early on. It looks like he's proving me right. You don't win a quadruple with Porto as a poor manager. He has experience under Mourinho & Sir Bobby, so he's learnt from some of the best.
He's in a tough position that he is expected to do better than the previous manager because 'Arry was sacked but 'Arry was infact himself doing really well with us. He's also in a deceptively difficult position as he took on a team that had been playing poorly in the final months of the season and had on top of that lost King, Modric and VDV with injuries to fellow first 11ers Parker, Kaboul and BAE. It's one thing to buy in good replacements but it's not easy to bed so many in at once whilst also imposing a new system and trying to turn around the bad form we finished last season in. I agree he seems like a good manager but I think he needs to be at the right club to show it, Chelsea clearly wasn't that side and we'll just have to wait and see with him at Spurs.
You hope Wenger stays, so he can keep us finishing above you? You do know that even in this tough period for us, we still finish above you every time right? A great example was last season, when you had one of your strongest teams, and your fans even took the micky chanting we want Wenger to stay when we played at the Emirates, then we kicked your asses 5-2 (which we did again this season) and eventually ended above you. But you just proved the low mentality of a Spurs fan, lol, you want Wenger to stay, not because it causes Spurs to finish above us, but just because it makes Arsenal stagnate behind the other big elite Manchester clubs. But oh right, I forgot, this will be the season you finally end above us right? Just like the past 6 seasons eh? This is the year when the North London power shift will take place for the 6th time right?
If you look at the gap between the clubs over the last few seasons, and extrapolate it to this season, this should, indeed, be the year that Spurs finish above Arsenal. They're also currently above Arsenal, despite having a poor start to the season, a lot of high-profile departures, and some long-term injury problems. Fact is, Arsenal used to look down on Spurs as their little neighbour. These days they're rapidly becomming equals on the pitch, and in the Table, competing for those illustrious Champions League places.
He wants Wenger to stay because another Manager might improve Arsenal. What is difficult for you to understand in that?
It might be, it might not. I think it will be close though like last year and the two previous seasons and if Wenger stays I can't see you speeding away from us anytime soon. If you get a new man in who doesn't give duds like Chamakh big contracts and buys in players who are in their prime and real quality then the significant amount of extra spending power you have over us might show in the league and trophies.
Sorry but it hasn't been close between us and spurs for "last season and the two before". Last season was the only time over the last few seasosn we have looked like genuinely struggling to get a top 4 spot. Lats season 2011/12 - it took till the last day and we finished a point above you in 3rd. 2010/11 - We finished 6 points clear of you after having a big slump in form and dropping from our title race, eventually letting even city overtake us. 2009/2010 - We finished in 3rd 5 points clear of spurs in 4th with vastly superior goal difference. And if we go back a further season we get you guys finishing an amazing 21 points behind us. Everyone acts like we have been aweful for ages, but actually its only last season and this season that we have been poor, prior to that we were genuine competitors. And even last season, our first season we where never in the title race we finished clear of spurs. It was close and you guys had a good season but i'd wait 'til the end of the season to assess where we stand in comparison to each other. For now though im happy with 5-2 and the knowledge that even our worst season under Wenger we still finished above you
Why does it matter when you hit your bad form? Whether it was at the end of the season or not you still only finished 6 above us over the whole season. My point was that it has been close in league finishes and points finishes, it's hard to argue with that. "last season, our first season we where never in the title race we finished clear of spurs" - Your first season where you weren't in the title race? Since the invincibles you've finished within 10 points of the leaders once. We've finished closer to you than you have to the title in most seasons since your last title yet you still think that you were more title contenders than you were struggling to stay top 4? "our worst season under Wenger we still finished above you" - Yeah but then you were helped by our squad going down with illness the night before the final game of the season. No one's saying that Wenger has made you awful but with the combination of Wenger and your board you continue not to replace your best players and still spend much more than us without actually getting better. Since the board are clearly hear to stay, if Wenger does too I think it's less likely that you will return to genuine trophy contenders anytime soon. As a Spurs fan, Arsenal not winning anything gives me some satisfaction but far more importantly than that it gives us a better chance to finish in the top 4 and compete for trophies.
As a QPR fan i think you should sack him and send him to us, We could sent you Harry and Mark Hughes in return? Seriously, If you sack Wenger, who do you think is out there that will move your team forward or improve on anything he's done? I can only see Pep and i dont think you'll pay him the money. Having said that, you have a fantastic stadium and a decnt team, matbe he could do a "barca" ovehaul. Just dont see your board or owners giving him the money he will want. 70million is peanuts when it comes to top players and managers fee's. Who do you guys want to take over..realistically?
