OK, so you're not fooled by the shortest day stuff. Yes indeed, there is a thermal lag to the average annual temperatures. It will get slightly colder, even though we'll see more Sun after the 21st. As you know, it's the same effect, but opposite, to temperatures after the longest day on the 21st of June.

Joe Root has been very solid. He hasn't done anything wrong. Boycott is very positive about him on TMS. But he isn't biased at all, coming from Yorkshire!

 

Looks steady and calm which is about all you can expect under current conditions. Five down is not the time for a newbie to take risks...his job is to stay in.

 

Would be nice if they can plod on to a 100 partnership, that would set things up nicely after that start.

Weird watching football this early in the day......Chelsea doing ok though.

 

I'd rather they were slow than lose more wickets! They might still manage 260 - 280 now which wouldn't be too bad. Just hope the wicket starts doing something later in the match, that will be the key to England winning/drawing this one.
