I think what I'm annoyed at is the potential not being fulfilled. We're a newly promoted team, we're now safe and we're heading for a mid-table finish which is fantastic. However, the ability to do more has been sitting there on a plate, and for reasons unknown (possibly just bad luck) it hasn't been taken.

I just see other teams do certain things, and I wonder why we can never do it as well. Maybe we do though and I just don't notice.

Well one was a penalty and wasn't in normal play, so let's discount that.

We scored one in-play goal against a ten men Birmingham at home when we had 14 shots on target. Is it good enough? No, not really.

I think we can all agree that our strikers are dire, will be 4th choice or lower next season. Only 2 more games with them up front <ok>

I think I can see where you're coming from with this article. It frustrated me seeing the players assuming it was job done with a 2-1 scoreline against 10 men but with 20 mins left still. Would have been nice to see them score a couple more and really put us out of sight.
On the other hand it's nice to get a win, B'ham never looked like getting anything from the game and we can see our midfield especially are very comfy on the ball.

Yeah it was a bit frustrating towards the end, but look at it this way: theres been quite a few games recently where they've looked tired from start to end - its possible that Pardew told them to conserve energy once it looked like the game was under wraps. That said, I was having a mild heart attack every time they hoofed the ball over to their front line in the last 10 minutes.

To be fair I agree with Chappaz, penalties don't really count in this sense. We created 14 goalscoring opportunities and could only take 1. I know Foster played a 'worldy' but still i'd expect 2 or 3 from open play at least. Give Airey and Ranger a go up top. Nothing to lose now.

Hahaha what the **** that's crazy.

Of course they don't. I'm looking at how the team performed and the goals they created as a result. Taylor's goal came due to in-game play, which is fair enough.

However, the only reason we had our second goal is because Ridgewell was a tit and awarded us a penalty. That's it. He gifted us the chance to take a shot from the penalty spot and it had absolutely **** all to do with us. Yeah Ameobi scored, but it was almost saved and it's not exactly amazing if you manage to score a penalty is it?

If you take that away, we managed to get 14 shots on target and scored with a header from a corner. None of our actual normal play against a 10 men Birmingham managed to net a single goal after 14 attempts. You think that's good enough?

14 shots on target is misleading though, because most of them were weak. Only a few of them really tested the keeper (to Fosters credit, he saved them well). The rest of them were long shots or weak kicks which would have been fairly comfortable to save for any keeper.

Honestly, up until the penalty, Birmingham looked like a real threat. We only started to look strong and play well once we got that penalty and Birmingham were down to ten. Yeah we bossed the midfield and had plenty of opportunities to shoot, but Birmingham had some good chances and could have turned the game around numerous times.

I know I sound pessimistic as hell, and I'm really glad with the win, but the lack of goals is a serious issue, and on another day we could have ended up drawing or losing that game.

I just can't wait to improve in the Summer. We need to be more solid.

Of course there will be a lack of goals, we sold our star striker and didn't replace him, we knew there would be a lack of goals! The fact that Nolan would have probably scored if Ridgewell didn't handball it doesn't mean anything then?

We will improve in the summer, I'm not worried about that.

Oh I know. It's frustration that's all. There are valid excuses for it but I still can't help feeling frustrated at times. I just needed to vent.

You'd just think that a duo of experienced strikers playing in the EPL would be able to string together SOME decent attempts. They must be the most unthreatening strikeforce in the EPL at the moment surely?

Got to be, defenses must look forward to playing us when they are at home... can't wait to have a threatening striker with HBA in behind..!
