From what I read Dave, the issues may be slightly exaggerated. Problem you have though is most positive reports were sponsored by Yank companies that want it to work (because they're doing it) & most negative reports are being bandied by the UK green lobby (now a money making industry in itself) that just straight don't want fossil fuels to be used at all. I love this planet & think it would be much better off without us on it but if its a choice between increasing prospects of war as countries vie for existing limited resources or exploiting some more while striving to limit the damage it does; I'll go with the latter. If someone wants to discover "cold fusion" go right ahead though.
Reading a book on my Kindle called 13 Things That Don't Make Sense by Michael Brooks (I'll post the ISOhunt link if you want to download it) that postulates that pons and Fleischmann did indeed create cold fusion, and that the US navy has been working on it for 20 years. Then again, i saw a channel 5 programme this evening about the moon landings being a hoax that described that ****ing failed librarian Kaysing as a rocket engineer, and that unqualified handyman Ralf Rene as a particle physicist, so I'm not really in the mood for conspiracy theories atm. Good book though, and RHC would pleased to know it's helping me make steady progress in understanding dark matter the origins of multi-cellular life. also makes a claim that I've read in the New scientist that NASA DID find microbial life on Mars in '76, and that this will be confirmed soon by Curiosity. Interesting read.

It's up there with Top Gear about two years ago doing a piece on a hydrogen car by Honda that cost the average price of a saloon, gets the same mileage etc. This year they do a piece on electric cars & the cost of creating the supporting infrastructure & discuss the future of other green cars with no mention of the Honda. I'm like what happened to the working car that's emissions were.....water! And Seriously Bow: Keanu!

I have the whole energy fiasco being played-out on my doorstep! 5 miles away is the Bristol Channel. 2nd highest tidal range in the world. The energy is constant, totally relaible and can be calculated. However a barrage is considered to be not cost-effective and could cause environmental damage (only to the green backed slime eating toad!). So much for green energy. 2 miles away they want to build a wind farm. It's not cost effective unless heavily subsidised. It's not reliable - either toomuch or too little wind. They want to build it on the Somerset Levels and the environmental impact ie despoiling an area of natural beauty will be considerable! Half a mile away they have built an Energy Park on land that was formerly used for grazing cows. Fields of solar panels instead of cows. The impact is minimal as the headgerows hide the panels but like the wind option it makes no economic sense. Fifteen miles away they want to build a nuclear reactor. We already have 2 on the site so a 3rd will make very little difference. If it is dedicated to meeting base load it makes very good economic sense (even allowing for waste and decommissioning) but every tree-hugger and his aunt wants to protest against it!. We've lived with reactors here for decades. We don't glow in the dark and our cancer levels are below the national average!! Even after all that I cannot for the life of me understand why, when we have over 50 years supply of coal underground we are not mining it and putting efforts into more effective scrubbing and carbon capture. After all it our bloody coal!!! Strategically the more self-reliant we are as far as energy is concerned the better.
There have been some fracking problems here in certain states and has caused the strange earthquake here and there. Indiana has loads of the windmill for the green power. Hybrids are starting to come around more and more.
wish i was old enough to have experienced that, def a once in a lifetime opportunity. i was only 2 though lol, you old farts i was supposed to go to Germany with mates when we done them 5-1 in their own backyard(all Liverpool scorers as well lol), imagine how gutted i was that i knew i could have ruddy been there as well.

I watched that in Gran Canaria, in a bar packed with Germans (the entire site was full of Germans - we didn't see any for the next few days which was heaven! We even managed to get places by the pool )
