I don't think Arsenal wanted it.Surprised Lambert did either in his position.

A day out at Wembley would have been nice but i would happily trade that for a fully rested squad and Premier lg survival.

What is it, the difference between the mentality of the north and the south of East Anglia that you can be four points off a Champions' League place with nearly half the season gone and all you can talk about is staying up?

it's called 'realism' and 'common sense'. its a very close division and there are about 12 teams who are all much of a muchness (of which we are one). maintaining form and with a little luck we could finish 6th this season. if we are unlucky or have a dip in form we could finish 18th. i'd still settle for 17th and take the ridiculous, obscene, vast extra income that comes with it thanks <ok>

A bit rich coming from someone who said McCarthy wouldn't keep you up this season.

Where exactly is the difference in mentality?

If you don't aim a little higher you will never achieve it. If you aim for safety every season eventually you'll come unstuck so I hope the board has more ambition than the fans.

We were stranded at the foot of the table on a 12 game stretch without winning, not one of the Premier League form sides. What a half-brained comment <doh>

umm, its our 2nd season back in the premier league. not sure if you've noticed (probably cos you've not been in it for so long) but its a totally different world in the top flight these days. staying up is success for norwich or ipswich - take the money, make your club stronger slowly and build and build over a few years. if done correctly, we should be a top half team jostling for cups and maintaining a big gap between ourselves and the drop zone. the era of smaller clubs competing with the big teams for position has disappeared... for now. that's not to say we won't be aiming as high as possible - just that we are all realistic enough to tell that safety is the main aim this season and (if achieved) probably will be again next season. you start every season aiming to win every game - you soon find out where your natural position is and ours is currently somewhere between 7th and 18th. honestly, its not difficult to comprehend. if ipswich were in our position you'd be saying exactly the same thing we are.

No more half-brained than your suggestion of a mystical divide in thought between north and south

The fact is you are not going to stay in that league forever, even Bolton couldn't manage it. The top teams are the top teams and the rest are interchangeable with all but the smallest of Championship clubs. Stoke are doing great, Fulham are doing great, but even Bolton couldn't survive after a decade in that top flight so it's not true that you build stability over time.

I would absolutely not be saying the same thing, Norwich are not a million miles away from having their best ever side and I would be wanting to grasp the opportunity of winning silverware or getting into Europe with both hands.

ten years in the top flight for a club the size of norwich is good going. i'd take that right now. you clearly don't live in the real world. its not a case of not wanting to better ourselves - its about what is possible at this stage. qpr tried to run before they could walk and look at them...

That's exactly what I'm talking about! Fulham got to the Europa League final, why on Earth can't Norwich?! Just being in the top flight is enough for you guys, it's pitiful!
