[h=1]Tony Pulis holds talks with referee chief after claim Stoke players are treated unfairly[/h] Tony Pulis has revealed he has held talks with referees' chief Mike Riley after claiming his players are being victimised by officials. Stoke are bottom of the Premier League Fair Play table having accumulated 32 yellow cards and three red already this season. But Pulis believes his players are paying an unfair price for their direct style and pointed to a recent challenge by Aston Villa's please log in to view this image Ciaran Clark on Glenn Whelan please log in to view this image that went, in his eyes, erroneously unpunished. "I have spoken to Mike Riley please log in to view this image this week," Pulis told The Sentinel. "I find the whole situation disappointing week after week. "Look at the incidents where our players are being booked or sent off, then compare them with similar incidents involving others that are going unpunished. There was the Clark one on Glenn at Villa." "All we have ever asked is to be treated the same as everyone else, but there are preconceptions about us that are unfair." Pulis also hit out at diving in the game but believes only high-profile managers such as Arsenal's please log in to view this image Arsene Wenger please log in to view this image can prompt a culture change. "It won't come from Tony Pulis please log in to view this image or Steve Clarke please log in to view this image (West Brom boss)," he added. "It will be interesting to see what Arsene Wenger and others will make of it because they are the ones who have power in football. "You have to ban these players for three games and then they will soon stop diving." http://www1.skysports.com/football/...fter-claim-Stoke-players-are-treated-unfairly
no need for jealousy because they're above you in the league mate. In seriousness though, I think people should just ignore Pulis. They get away with so much tugging in the box it is ridiculous but the referees have shown their stance on it (nothing). I'm not looking forward to playing them Saturday.
Hes pissing in the wind looking for sympathy from the refs, he'll target Jellyfish and your best wide player at the weekend and his players will kick the **** out of them.
Not really. Clearly his team has gotten the yellow and red cards that come with playing the way they do, but I think it's all just a swipe at Arsene. Trying kick him while he's down.
Don't think anyone agrees with Pulis, but then he's hardly unique in this area. All managers, be it SAF, Rodgers, Dalglish, Mancini, Benitez, Pulis or whoever treat refs in the exactly the same way - making these public comments about diving / 'protecting' their players / giving a 'fair' amount of penalties / not singling out perceived dirty players. If anyone had made a similar comment it would just have been ignored as mind games. To single out Pulis as some sort of deluded hypocrite for trying the same stuff as anyone else does seem to take the whole Stoke hating to Arsenal-esque levels of victimisation.
Maybe he expects all his players to be able to stamp on opponents' chests with impunity, and play-acting like Higginbottom did when he pretended Lucas had dived and got him booked is acceptable, but play-acting to gain a penalty isn't. Unless you're walters against us last season that is...
I think it is about time we started to ignore what managers say. Their only concern is the welfare of their team and if they can possibly influence something then they will try it. Fergie has been doing it for years and we have seen a fair few recent Liverpool managers do it too!
