im thinking of joining the masons does anyone know what its all about cos i cant seem to find a straight answer online? what are the benefits etc of being a member? would anyone recommend it?
Hard work being a mason. Lots of heavy lifting and bending down and even though there are regulations on what weights can be lifted (25kg) many slabs are still weighing in at nearly double that. Even though lifting aids are available not many contractors use them and back injuries amongst masons are common. You could go down the artisan mason route where you get to do ornamental stonework such as church restoration but this is a hard game to get into and apprenticeships or college courses are few and far between. Good luck with it, I'm sure it would be a rewarding career.
