This would be the biggest disaster to hit the world of football IMO. If standing is bought back, then fans have to have access to the pitch in case of an emergency. If netting had been in place when the Hillsborough disaster happened, then I hate to think how many would have died. The HD was one of the reasons standing was no longer allowed at Premiership grounds.
It does seem a funny time to suggest bringing it back, when the Hillsborough disaster has so recently been in the public eye.
Its insane, imagine the size of the netting smalle enough to stop a 5p coin, you wouldnt be able to see through it. The only thing to do would be perspex pane behind the goal, they have them in Italy but thats even worse if the end has to be evacuated.
The perspex pane still doesn't stop flares being thrown from behind the goal by the ultras. I believe netting is behind each goal at the Camp Nou.
A lot of the problem is that goal celebrations these days have gone to the extreme......the posturing, goading etc of the opposition fans.....the players need to take some degree of responsibilty and tone things down.....unfortunately you will always get the minority who would throw things...amazed in this day and age that they can actually afford to throw money......get the players back to proper goal celebrations. I don't see a problem with having a net behind the goal not only to stop missiles, but also stop the ball from potentially injuring a spectator.
How big's the coin throwing problem? Probably a bit bigger than the number of times someone gets caught in the eye. But is that a reason to contemplate netting all around every ground? Name, shame and heavily fine the ****ers responsible to deter others. Nothing else needed imho.
