Standing at football: 13 clubs back pilot scheme Thirteen English league clubs support re-introducing standing at football grounds, according to a fans' group. On Tuesday, the Football Supporters' Federation is hoping to win the backing of MPs for its plans for a small-scale trial at Premier League clubs. It believes the pilot scheme would show standing - outlawed after the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 - is now a safe way to watch football. FSF's safe standing co-ordinator Daykin told BBC Sport: "The debate about standing has reached a point where both sides are entrenched." "The bottom line is things have changed dramatically since 23 years ago when the Taylor Report was produced. Things have moved on massively in terms of technology and know-how around safety in football grounds. So, what we are calling for is a number of small-scale trials at Premier League clubs up and down the country." "Then experts, safety officers and the police can see how it works in a modern context. We have had 50 MPs sign up to Roger Godsiff's EDM and correspondence showing support from more MPs unable to sign an EDM for technical reasons." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20679867?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=bbchumber Aston Villa Brentford Bristol City Burnley Cardiff City Crystal Palace Derby County Doncaster Rovers Hull City Peterborough United Plymouth Argyle Watford AFC Wimbledon
I emailed my MP and asked him to support the EDM. He declined. He trotted out the old chestnuts on safety as the justification. After a fairly lengthy exchange it was clear that he wasn't going to change his view point. So that's 1 that we can't rely on!
I'd love to see the safe standing at the KC but can't see it happening as the stadium is owned by the council and I doubt they will pay for it. Can't see the Allams paying for it either as they won't spend money on something they don't own
FFS, Peterborough still have standing and old style standing. Cannot wait for that game on January 19th. Back to the good old days and stood behind the goal with a barrier for my cup-a-tea. IMO, standing should never have been taken away. But without going back down that road again Its good news.
im all for it but i can see why this will never pass . As things stand (no pun intended) if someone is injured at a football stadium while seated there wont be a backlash nor will there be a focus on the person sitting . If a fan slips (which they can do whilst leaving their seat to go for a piss/pie/pint) in a standing area , Health and Safety will have a field day and no doubt the injured will be pressured to sue the club .
i've been at grounds where the stairs between rows of seats were at dizzying angles without any handrails and if someone fell forward those in front would go like dominoes. maybe i could arrange for such a thing to accidentally happen. not at a city game, of course.
Personally I don't see the benefits of safe standing in the KC. There's been talk of it being beneficial to the atmosphere - how exactly?
The atmosphere when the crowd stands is completely different. Have you never been to an away game where the entire away end stands?
What will you do if it gets the go ahead OLM? In with the unwashed masses or stick with the prawn sandwichers? I've just got used to going in a box so **** that for a game of soldiers. Even the Premier Club and Players Lounge are beneath me now. Saying that I may frequent them once in a while to see how the riff raff are getting on.
Anyone who has ever had the honour to watch a City game from the Kempton will tell you all about standing and the atmosphere it created in there, If it happens it will totally transform the KC.
People who've never been in a goal scoring crush, or felt rust down the back of their top, simply haven't lived.
Peterboro away last season, was quality, great atmosphere in that little terrace. Waggy waggy waggy oi oi oi With a terrace you can just sense what groups are going to sing and those who want to sing all seem to group together, that just aint happening in seats as you cant just walk over and oust people from seats, in terracing you can just squeeze in beside people
Like it or not, as far as the KC is concerned, our other joint tenant will have major input into this matter....
All this on the day the FA had an idea to put up fences to stop people chucking things at players & getting on the pitch.
