I know I should be focused on the game tonight but I am stuck in kent and will be glued to my lap top. Anyway just curious as to the split of Newcastle, sunderland and even Middlesbrough supporters throughout the North East. I assume most of Northumberland and Newcastle is black and white and Sunderland is red and white but what about elsewhere. I believe Durham County used to be predominantly Sunderland but no longer. let me start. My home town is Bishop Auckland and I would guess there is a relatively equal split between Newcastle and Sunderland with a few brave or sad soles supporting Boro I would suggest 45% N, 45% S and 10% Boro What about your home town?
East Durham is now full of pretend Geordies since the invention of 'toon' in 1992 by Sky. Plakka Mags ; sort of like as Rod Stewart has pretended to be Scottish all his life, people in East Durham are now pretending to be Geordies. Saddos.
I am from Blyth and i support Sunderland, so according to NMG im a saddo as well. Living in Guisborough now primarily boro but there are a few (not many though) toon and Sunderland fans.
I don't think you can say he pretends to be Scottish just because he's from Highgate. It's his identity and it has been since birth most likely as a result of his highly militant Scottish father. The new born mags I don't disagree about.
I'm a Seaburn lad, and it's 100% SAFC. I've been surprised recently at how many South Shields lads are red & white, I thought it'd gone almost black and white since 1993, seems it's more like a 60/30 split in their favour.
WP very surprised 20% Sunderland in Cramlington. Thought that would be 100% Newcastle. Perhaps family ties. NMG In the 70's I barely remember a Newcastle fan in Bishop but you are right after the 90's they popped up everywhere. Maybe they were there all along but just kept quiet
Aye Crammy defo would 100% to be fair. Maybe more 90/10 overall in Northumberland. Ashington has always had a few Sunderland fans though. I reckon that could be split as much as 60/40. Mainly as a result of the miners moving there for work.
NMG - I love how finding out people support Sunderland in an area is fair enough but if you find out people support Newcastle in an area they are "Plakka mags" and "saddos", are you going to have the decency to at least follow up your nonsense by suggesting the others are "Plakka Mackems" and "saddos" too? Realistically people move about alot more than they used to, in the north-east especially people used to often stay in an around the areas they were brought up so its no suprise you would get places where there were 90% newcastle fans or 90% sunderland fans. Nowadays people move around alot more so you get all-sorts of fans all over, i regularly see Newcastle tops in Liverpool (where i live) and used to in Leicester too.
Absolutely all this. I do laugh when he spouts this absolute bollocks and agree 100% that NMG is in fact a complete ****.
Tyneside - North I would say 90% Newcastle, the rest Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal. South - I would say 60/40 split in Newcastle favour. Question for NMG, I am from jarrow, support Sunderland but class myself as a Geordie. What do I get classed as?
I'm from Gateshead which used to be part of County Durham before the boundary changes in 1974. The Low Fell area is probably 85% Newcastle, 5% Sunderland, 10% others. Heworth/Wardley probably 75/25 in Newcastle's favour. Although being raised a Newcastle supporter my paternal grandmother was born in Town End Farm in Sunderland and I still have extended family there and in East Durham and Teesside. Howay the North East!
