A forward shouldnt need to track back IMO, tracking back leads to teams sitting deep and encourage the opposition to attack. Im not saying that they shouldnt put a shift in but I want the forwards to stay up the pitch ready to create some attacks of our own. This was a massive problem against Villa and one of the reasons that we didnt have a shot at goal until the 80th minute (which is very embarasing).
Well said Ric, I've said this before, why on earth should Crouch/Jerome/Jones etc have to defend behind the half way line? Adam, N'Zonzi even Walter's should be doing that pressing the ball higher up the pitch. It starts with TP this cage system whatever that means just does not help our "attacking" type player's IMO. Wiide right? Why not Kightly or Jerome with Crouch and cough, cough. OWEN up front and they stay UP FRONT. Believe me, should that ever come to be. Most teams would be leaving 3/4 player's to mark them. Which means we play a higher line. Easy innit to qoute Nicky
That's not really part of the Tony Pulis school of thinking though. I agree that it's useful to have players that are versatile and has stamina enough to come back to help out, but the priority should be staying up behind the striker somewhere.
