I pretty much agree with this (also nice to see someone is capable of discussing it without acting ******ed, albeit this is unusual for you Frank )
Oh come on lads, get a sense of perspective here ffs. You're automatically relating this news story to Suarez, who let's be right, was a man who'd lived in Western Europe for 5 years before that incident, so was hardly a stranger to European culture. A player who arrives on these shores directly from Asia, Africa, South America or the middle East, might have no knowledge or experience of what is deemed to be acceptable or otherwise in our society, so the FA offering a course to assist them in understanding that, can only be a good thing.
So Dutch culture is "completely different" to ours, in respect to what is deemed acceptable from a racial persepective? hahaha, whatever you say lid.
love how its only what is deemed acceptable from a racial perspective, not society as a whole. so what Evra said to Suarez must be acceptable, because it had nothing to do with racism.
Apologies - I didn't realise Holland was exactly the same as England. I must have smoked too much weed and ate too many hash brownies here in the UK.
So their different attitude towards soft drugs equates to them having a "completely different" culture regarding racial issues then? Nice try - but a fail.
Its a different country with a different culture. I dont think you can really judge Europe as a whole in this scenario. Individual countries are all different.
Except as I've rather flippantly pointed out there is a widely recognised xenophobic attitude prevalent throughout English football. This "course" is another example of it since only one of the half dozen racist incidents they are reacting to was perpetrated by a non European foreigner(who if we accept your position should have been "europeanised", the rest were by english citizens or Europeans; be they footballers, ex managers or fans. So exactly why is the course targeted at foreign players? I'll repeat as I have throughout this debacle. If the FA simply incorporated (& forced clubs to do the same) current equality laws that every other employer in the UK has to adhere to then there will not be a problem. The only issue that complicated it (again ironically is player "ownership" or self employed type status) if you apply said HR practices and a player is fired due to breaches the club loses millions & the player can join a rival for free. You can't stop a player from attempting to obtain employment under European Human rights laws. Simple Solution: added to every players contract that wants to play in PL; if they are fired from a club due to breaching equality law (which has a wider description which includes xenophobia as racism as well as homophobia & gender discrimination) while yes, they can obtain further employment (after FA suspension period) at another club in the PL or whatever UK league or if miraculously you get FIFA agreement ANY league; they must repay their former club (in part payments if necessary ) their market value at time of dismissal. That punishes the player without depriving their right to work, punishes the former club through loss of player but not economically to the detriment of the rest of the club & its fans. You don't need a course for foreign players, you need a HR induction like in other workplaces for every player. If they sign it they accept it & are bound by it legally. If they don't they don't play in this country, born here or not. Would actually tackle the problem not pretend to while perpetuating xenophobia. Hit people where it hurts: their pockets.
Lol: ! You called me ******ed! Just as long as its descriptive & you don't discriminate against me using this as a reason
One thing that will need to be thought about is that a lot of players cannot speak much English when they arrive in this country. Suarez couldnt speak much English. When speaking with Evra he was speaking Spanish. Negreto is a commonly used Spanish word and not a racist term. Any courses will needed to be in a lot of different languages.
Yeah; have a wee wander round certain parts of Spain & Italy & see what their views on race are like. And very open about it too.
Good post that Frank, I agree with the vast majority of it. Albeit I'd say that the FA are offering their assistance here, they're in essence saying that whilst they didn't accept 'ignorance being an excuse', they've realised that they've done nothing to provide the knowledge that they're expecting overseas players to have. Whilst they still may be wide of the mark with the detail of the proposal, the aim is the right one imo.
I ment without acting ******ed Maybe BBF has a point about my 'arsetalk' - he must surely at least have one point hidden somewhere deep , deep inside one of his posts .
I went on a school trip to Holland for a week when I was 14/15. The food was terrible. About 100 teenagers all constipated.
i went about 10 yrs ago and mainly ate burger king(think it was or could have been makie d's) on every ruddy corner so see why people get fat now days. wasn't a school trip though went for the culture lol.
Sorry my bad quoting again: it was more a response to J's point about Europe not being a singular entity.
