We also went for Hooper last January, and ended up with Billy Sharp. Then in the summer we not only got Rodriguez, but Mayuka and Ramirez as well. If we can afford to send Sharp out on loan we definitely don't need Hooper now, which our "Goals For" column would tend to support.
 
I would like to see us poach some youngsters from the Championship. Will Hughes and Mason Bennett from Derby look real talents. If you don't know who Hughes is, watch the FLS and watch him tear through the Leeds defence with ease.

Careful, we'll get laughed at by Derby fans(LOL) who'll tell us he would only leave for a "big club." They'll also quote unrealistically high valuations.<wizard>

I bet you a million internet pounds this will happen if we're linked to him.
 
I'd be gutted if we went for Hooper, as it would all but confirm the end of Lee's Saints career. Think he and Mayuka both deserve a chance, especially ahead of Rodriguez, who has been woeful for large parts of this season. I don't think Hooper is an improvement on what we already have anyway, he's pretty much Billy Sharp mk II.

Gaston won't leave, it's just the Italian media putting words in his mouth and regurgitating it as saying he wants to move back to Italy. As a Fiorentina fan I wouldn't be too disappointed if he went there, but the fact is Viola don't need him right now. With Aquilani, Borja Valero, Mati Fernandez, Jovetic and Ljajic, attacking midfield is the one position we (Fiorentina - gets confusing as I'm also a Saints fan!) really don't need to strengthen. I think Gaston will stay for a few years with Saints, especially if we make progress next year and finish in the upper echelons of the table.

I'd like to see the two Derby boys come in, especially Hughes. Looks a fantastic prospect. Are there any highly rated young defenders we could be looking at? Stephens appears to be a way off the first team right now, and other than Shaw all of our other high-potential youth seem to be attackers.
 
Also re Jeremain Lens - people are aware that he's been mainly used as a centre-forward for PSV this season? We certainly won't go for both him and Hooper. I'd prefer Lens, as he could in theory play up top, on either wings, or in the hole. A true utility man, and interchanging positions with Gaston and Lallana could be a real option.
 
I am probably a bit late on this but it seems we have renewed our interest in Scott Dann of Blackburn according to the Daily fail. anyone else seen anything on this?
 
Just throwing this one out there, anyone think that Puncheon's contract hasn't been renewed yet due to ongoing interest in Phillips/Lens?

It was also in the Sun. Not too fussed about him to be honest.
 
I think our transfers will be quite obvious in January, Curtis Davies, Scott Dann, Martin Olsson, Matt Phillips or Matt Upson. Im expecting at least 1 of those from that list.

Talking of the The **** Shirt Show, why don't they trail it on MOTD anymore? Is it still on (I haven't watched MOTD live for a few months now)? Not that I miss it (the trail). I strangely miss that moment of severe depression when I have to watch Manish go on about how there has been a week of extreme excitement and x amount of red cards and x amounts of goals. Don't get me wrong: love the football, but Manish, his shirt, the fake brick walls, plastic scenery, and breakfast bar would temporarily plunge me into deep depression, which would set me up nicely for another beer and a few Premiership 0-0s.

I think we may be surprised. Nigel has hinted heavily that it will be an exciting window. I'm hoping for something big!
 
Upson is past it.
Blackburn fans say Dann is **** and they don't even want him.
Curtis is the most over hyped english championship Cb, when infact he is ****ing ****.

Dann is too slow and is struggling in the Championship, Davies also appears to be struggling in a defence that's conceded 33 goals, and Upson is miles past it.
 
Davies has been appalling on several times I have seen him. In the flesh and on TV. Dann is slow as **** and useless, did you see him the other night?

And Upson? Well there's a reason he hasn't played regularly for any half-decent side in yonks, let alone a PL team in a scrap.

Say what you want about them, they are all players with 250+ senior appearances. i doubt we will get anyone of a higher caliber than them, if infact we dont get any of them.

I'd rather fonte and yoshida over all 3 of them, ****, I'd probably rather hooiveld as well
