Yes, its that time of the year again folks! The time when people who called things hideously and catastrophically wrong get to man up and apologise to the Board for their bad judgement. Of course there were some who put their point across in a mild-mannered and non-confrontational manner and are no doubt modest, humble Gents and need not avail of this conscience-cleansing service. This is for all the ranters and ravers. The wafflers and bigmouths. The blatherskites and windbags. The fools that predicted a brilliant season with brilliant players. The delusional Pollyannas that we have to put up with every single pre-season. The know nothings who attacked the rational-minded and poured scorn over the realists. Its time for the not606ers who declared to the World that Mark Hughes' signings were going to lead us to places we'd never even dreamed of, to own up and confess their transgressions. Come clean and apologise to those whom they mocked without mercy. I think it will prove to be a healthy exercise and be most helpful for harmony and good-will on the Board. So come on then, what are you waiting for? Lets be havin' ya!
I'm sorry that I bothered to read this thread. That's two precious minutes that I'll never see again.
On a serious note, I can't be the only one that gets a bit annoyed pre-season when otherwise intelligent people lose all sense of reason and let their imaginations run wild. Good lads with good footballing knowledge totally lose the run of themselves and for three solid months, forget there's 19 other Clubs in our League with most of them bigger than ourselves. If guys take note of this now, they might be reluctant to take part in such carry on next Summer. It could save us an awful lot of grief and depression when reality hits home around the start of October every year.
I got carried away and I make no bones of it. One early win and we'd mid-table in my honest view - that Swansea game cost us a lot. Hughes wasn't sacked too early - he was given the three games after our spirit sapping "difficult" run (where we performed more admirably than we have since) and was rightly sacked for not having anything to show for it. We have a good set of players that will hopefully grow from not losing in a few and then get the much needed win and show us that they're as good as they actually are. The extra pace and assurance that comes with confidence cannot be understated. For daring to dream, I apologise. If we fail to reach the heights of my enthusiastic beliefs then you can expect more apologies because I'm not going to become a doom-monger for anyone....
Okay mate however would you not prefer to not find yourself in this position again? Nobody's asking for people to become doom-mongers, just a little more balanced that's all. If we learn to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground then these truth and reconciliation threads will not be called for.
To be honest, no. To argue the converse is probably more reasonable - is it more crushing to the morale of a pessimist to be down-trodden by the optimist when they already expect the worst? Rather, it is more destructive for the more negative minded to trample the aspirations of the eternally hopeful. I don't think there's any case for the realist because I'd challenge anyone to say that they expected a record-breaking winless streak from the outset.
Brilliant! Push a bloke a bit and you'll get his best. Well done Matteo. Uber, can't you think of owte else other than brewing up?
