Believe it or not he actually had the most assists of all our players last season with something like 6! There was a stats post on the official website which had goals, assists, cards, tackles etc and to everyones surprise he was top of the pile for assists.
Not only that but he would have got the assist for Cisse's goal against City last game of last season I think (unless goes to Lescott for the headed ball??). He has improved under HR but still not quite there sadly.
I have a sneaky suspicion that, despite the fierce and largely deserved criticism of the man since he joined the Rs, he will play an important role for in the remaining games to come this season.
I have a sneaky suspicion that he won't. That is of course unless he can pop one away within the next couple of games, preferably a match winning goal.
Don't want to sound discouraging but if we have to rely on him to any great extent, we truly are fukced
I never said that we'd have to rely on him, just that he will play an important role. I have been as critical as the rest about him, but I want him to come good. I want every player in a QPR shirt to come good.
That stat on his assists is quite a funny one. It includes the aimless lump in the air that Lescott flicked on for Cisse and a dreadful misplaced shot that went straight to Cisse at Villa amongst others that were incredibly lucky. Saturday's was a reasonable 15 yard pass with their defence all over the place. He was ****, again.
Uber, I started a thread over the summer about how I thought SWP was going to come good this season. Don't ask me for betting tips!
You are closer to the truth than you think. He had 3 before, one was because a stoke defender headed it into our forwards path, one was a mishit shot and the other one was a 5 yard square pass than Smith hit a 30 yarder into the top corner.
Credit where it's due, I think he's done really well last two games. When players hit a bad patch (albeit extended in his case) we seem totally unwilling to recognise improvement. They are cast aside forever. The runs he made to create the chances against villa were unlike anything we saw before from him. His control for his first was top notch and he missed the chance. The second against the post was a great effort. The Cisse assist was calm and assured and created by his alertness to seize the opportunity of a wayward pass. He deserves the chance to put things right and on the evidence of last couple could be a great asset. New start, new beginning under HR lets give him the same chance as others. It's a different role to MH utilising him in a defensive capacity!
So more assists then Taraabt?... we are still with all potentiality ****ed.....perhaps statues of our defence would be more apt...they have been statuesque all season.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/334/league/eng.1/queens-park-rangers?cc=5739 Taarabt set up the 2nd or 3rd most chances in the PL and has 2 assists this season to SWP one. I also love the shots on target for SWP, 15 attempts and 2 on target. 65 attempts last season and 13 on target. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/s...2011/league/eng.1/queens-park-rangers?cc=5739 Last season SWP had 3 assists and only 1 of them was meant, that was a 5 yard pass that a drunk pub team player could have done. Just face it, he is abysmal. An assist in the last game doesnt disprove that.
