Agree with westhulltiger. Why do football fans cling into history so much? What happened in the last few years won't affect this year's Cardiff squad. They've got a different manager and a different team to most of the years they 'bottled it'. But also, if they lose in the playoffs does that really constitute bottling it? Doesn't that mean 3 teams every year bottle it in the playoffs?

Common sense is generally in short supply, but it's nice to see it's still alive and kicking. <ok>

Do I get the impression that this Tickler bloke is a bit like Daiswan at the Jacks?

Has an opinion on everything but really knows **** all and always proves it in the end?

It's a tricky one as far as I'm concerned because tradition is such a massive part of the whole event, well at least it was. I think it's less and less a part of football and football's the worse for it. Too many people at football are now expert pundits, discussing stuff I doubt most understand.

***Dvorzak, New World Symphony mode on***

See, when I started going, none of us really had a clue what they were doing on the pitch, we just had a laugh together before, during and after the game. We'd have to wait ages to find out anyone elses results and the chances of seeing any highlights was pretty slim. The actual game was pretty much just the excuse for the rest of the day that had all the interesting bits in it. That's where history fits, but not baubles and trinkets, it's memories of things you did or saw, people you met.

I don't think I'd have been going 40 years later if football then was as it is now.

***Dvorzak, New World Symphony mode off***

It begs the question of which parts of the whole are 'the club'

In the last couple of decades we've changed owners, ground and I'd bet every member of staff. That leaves the fans and surely, the key elements that bind us together is the love of the game and associated travel etc. which much surely be based on history and tradition, a big part of that is the name that's linked to the kit. Hell we get upset if the wrong badge is used.

Mind you, there's more chance of finding a tiger or a dragon in the UK than there is of finding a bloody Bluebird. They've never lived here despite old Vera's song.

Oh ****, I babbled on that much I forgot what I'd logged on to say...some clubs, and I'll use Crystal Palace as an example, play the same no matter what the changes to the set up. They dive and apply gamesmanship and I have in the past said I wouldn't bother going to games involving them anymore. There'll be others where a culture runs through a club that seems to transcend the people involved.

So, sorry taff, you seem a decent bloke and all that, but history has decided that you're destined to fall in the play-offs again. It's just teh way it is.

It's possibly related to your history, think about it, have you ever upset a gypsy?

I agree with you DMD, the memories we take from football are important to all of us. My point about history was more about using it as a factual basis to predict future events. This 'Cardiff are going to bottle it again' thing makes as much sense as 'Ashton Gate/Elland Road/St. Andrews is a tough ground for us so we'll probably lose'. Common sense tells us these past events don't affect it but some people genuinely believe it will influence present day results.

Equally, it's like Leeds fans saying they should be in the PL because they're a big club, but when asked for their definition of a big club it turns out they just mean history. So because they used to be in the PL they still should be. Insane logic.

I appreciate your point and the fact I rambled away on something else. I know what it is you're saying and I think it's one of those odd issues where you are factually and logically correct, but there does seem to be an ethos that runs through some clubs even though every element has changed. To a degree, if a club has a history of losing finals in fairly recent history, the pressure can build on the current team to the extent it can affect them.

Wait till the media start piling on the pressure in March about 'bottling it' , or Cardiff have two defeats in a row.

    Auto-suggestion, or self-fulfilling prophecy ?

We shall see in may. Its a long way to go yet. Maybe this year will be your year but i would not get ahead of yourself just yet ?

Title decider maybe ? Automatic promotion decider maybe ? Who knows, TWT. I hope we are up after the Barnsley away game. If we are then i dont care about the title.

Your just about the last person on here to have a go with anyone about predictions. You have proved that many times. <doh> As for Southampton, yes i did not think they would stay the pace but fai r play to them on doing that. But they did get some help from West Ham mind over 2nd and 3rd spot.

TWT as always. You have a real banana skin of a game this saturday though. Peterboro @ home. Shock anyone ?............

yes The race on on full stop. The festive and New Year period will show us more i think. But also the January transfer window will make or break many teams chances. imo.

Well you come on hear showing yourself up to be what you think i am. Really now ? Lets wait and see who knows what shall we come May time.

...and now OLM comes on with his standard insult. No surprise yet typical of him. Get over Nick Barmbys sacking man. You need therapy over this car park theory of yours as well. :bandit:

Takes one to know one then by the sounds of it OS.<ok>

With the squad Cardiff have it's no suprise to see them doing so well at the top. I can't see them falling away to be honest and they're looking good for winning the league. I think they willl take one of the top 2 places at least, with ourselves, Leicester, Boro and perhaps a team who put a run together after Christmas taking the other auto spot.

Tickler me old condom. Nice to see reasonable replies without abuse. <ok>

The point is, we all have opinions, it's just that most of us have the sense not to confuse them with knowledge. Predictions are one thing, but assuming the role of the Oracle is pushing it a bit pal.

Can we all accept one thing on here? The final Championship positions are not currently available in the KFC car park.

Check your facts, the bluebird is still on the badge. Smaller and less prominant yes, but still there.
