I for one was very excited when we got Nuri Sahin on loan as I remember the level he was at with BVB and thought with regular game time, we could have a gem on our hands this season. It seems it has not worked out quite as well and maybe this quote clears some of that up?

My only problem I see with this is that there is no way on this green earth, no matter how good Nuri plays, will he displace Joe Allen. I still think he can be massive for us and does have that kind of passing range we have missed since Alonso. Maybe that extra striker or attacking player will help in January and hopefully we can start to see the best of Nuri. <ok>

Next game i would drop Gerrard and have Sahin/Lucas play together like the Alonso/Mascherano partnership. Let Allen the furthest forward and have it there.

He really struggles when CAM and would like to see him partner Lucas.

I don't think it's Allen he needs to displace, it's Gerrard.

Since Lucas coming back it's Gerrard playing the Alonso role imo.

    -----Lucas-----
    Gerrard
    -----------Allen

This is how I felt our midfield lined up with Gerrard moving further forward at the right times but being aware of what was behind him.

At the moment the role Gerrad is playing may suit him but he's going to have to be patient and with him probably wanting first team footy can we keep him happy?

I think he needs more time in those deep positions and hopefully he is starting to feel comfortable with his teammates and getting on the correct wave length. Not sure how injuired Enrique is but with Enrique, Suarez, new signing- Lucas, Sahin, Gerrard I think that would be pretty formidable for any side.

Do you think he's done enough to make you want to buy him in the summer?

I hope he stays as it gives us options in midfield. Gerrard should still start imo and is playing well. Lets not go there fellas.

He hasn't done enough, but depending on his price I think he would be a good addition and I think he will get better in time.

I don't buy this. So we had 3 months of Allen being forced to play deeper because Lucas was out: with BR reminding us the whole time not to judge Allen because he should be further forward. What! with Sahin there who can & wanted to play in that position all along? Surely that would have been problem solved?

Surely this was tried in training& for some reason BR decided against Sahin. Does anyone still think we should make Sahin permanent?

Like I said it all depends on price for me, I'd be happy with lets say 8-9 million but anymore and we would be taking a big chance based on his form so far. I did just pluck that figure out of the air but he has a reputation and could well return to form, I don't want to miss out on a player.

Still think Gerrard is progressing towards being a super sub type player and Allen, well he won't get dropped, but should be. Sahin has quality and had played good at times, a bit more effort and he will do well, maybe with Lucas there it would help.My three would be:

    --------Lucas-----
    ----------------Sahin
    ----Suso

Maybe a future 3 but I don't think that would be a good idea at the moment. We all have different opinions on our midfield though.

Actually I agree to an extent. One man deserving of a chance in our midfield is Henderson.

Think he should come in for Allen but again, won't happen. If Henderson starts to get rewarded for playing well ( goal on Thursday, assist on Sunday) then it should spur others on to want to compete and get in the team.

Agree, if he can be had for £9M max, then yes, I'd want to keep him, if RM want more and if he shows no more than he's already done, then I'd be happy to send him back.
Also agree about Henderson, I just like the guys attitude and hope he gets a decent run out in the team, I'm sure with a bit more coaching he could be moulded into a damn fine MF and be a main stay of our midfield for years to come.

I think Henderson can add some steel and energy in the middle as well. We are a bit lightweight in that regard. I think Allen keeps the ball ticking around, not much else, if Sahin can get on his game, his range of passing is superb, Lucas obviously the destroyer but the battery in the middle could very well be Henderson and hope it works out for him.

I would have this guy in the team instead of Allen at the moment but I would'nt want us to spend anything more than ten mil on him if we are going to buy him. I don't think we will buy him though, we won't need him WHEN Alonso come's back in the summer.

There is talk of that, we take Sahin, get him some minutes that he would not get at Real, little switch with Alonso at the end of the season.

The problem we have is this

    We have the anchor role
The "middle man" in the midfield
    And the " number 10"

Lucas is only natural anchor we have
Suso is the only number 10 we have ( and hardly ever plays there)

Then we have Gerrard,Sahin,Allen,Henderson and Shelvey whose favorite position is the middle role.

I will tell you now Sahin will NOT succeed if we play him in the no 10 role, and he will go back to Madrid in the summer, TBH i think thats what may happen anyway

I woudl really like to see for ONE game ( especially while Allen is out of form, and played loadsa games )

    Lucas
    Sahin
    Gerrard

    or even better

    Lucas
    Sahin
    Suso

With Gerrard on the right wing

Don't think we will see many tweaks with our recent run and finally getting a bit of stability but I agree, would like to see that last midfield trio and it has been mentioned by many before.

Players will need a rest at some stage and we don't have a massive squad so im sure Sahin will get his chance in the holding role at some stage.
