York's support is ****, back in league football, but still only managing about 5k Considering the size a the place, that's appalling. Nearly as bad as Leeds...
Can't blame people from York for going down the road to the modern capital of Yorkshire to support Leeds. That city does have a good football support whether they follow their local team or not - lots of Man U and Newcastle fans about the place too. And I was more on about the noise levels their home crowd makes rather than their numbers.
Weren't York one of the first ones to try to get an 'ultras' type feel to the fans a few years back? Anyone know how they get on with that? Or am I getting muddled up?
Remember the game earlier this season, where we were singing "Where's your famous atmosphere?" and got no reply?
We tried our best and that's all a man can do. There were, however, long periods which we outsang you for from where I was standing, so clearly the acoustics can be twisted to make a case for either set of fans. But really it's not very surprising that 2,500 of you at your cup final would make more noise than a repressed and discontented home crowd. I'm sure we'll outsing you in late December. Hardly a major deal.
I remember you singing "you're getting mauled by the tigers" once when you were 3-1. I remember us in the kop singing loudly and proudly despite feeling disheartened by what was happening and us also losing. I remember you making no noise whatsoever.
You lot were silent at your place, which is precisely why we spent half the game singing 'where's your famous atmosphere'. A situation that I've no doubt will be reversed at our place, as the atmosphere at the KC is currently as bad as it is at Elland Road. Unfortunately for you, there should be no reversal of the result, but at least you'll get to watch some entertaining football for a change.
It had better be more entertaining than last season's match at the Circle, which was also touted as a match of great excitement and attacking football and ended up being the midfield possession-changing world record attempt.
It was disappointing, but we're a different team, with a different manager and a different formation now.
Because your fans have an obsessive hatred of Leeds United, more so than any other football club, and the fixture therefore means more to you than any other opposition, and so is your cup final, so to speak.
