Get yourself to the bookies and stick a pony on our prolific German replicating this feat next season.

    Nailed on, absolutely nailed on.

He needs to win a World Cup to call himself the greatest ever player.

Muller won everything within the game- Euros, Bundesligas, European Championships, Domestic cups & World Cups.

I don't think winning a World Cup should really determine whether or not the player is the best in the World because what if he played for San Marino? It'd basically be a one-man task. Pele played for Brazil so it was relatively easier for him to win a World Cup.

Given that Argentina are a great side, Messi should have won a World Cup, but it's unfortunate that he's around at the same time as Spain's best few Seasons really. The Ballon D'or 3 times in a row should explain itself, added to the words from Pele himself saying that Messi is possibly better than himself.

But would Messi be the worlds best without Spain's best?

Winning the world cup is a team effort not an individual one. He´s just broke a 40 year record playing in one of the best leagues in the world. Anyway he´s won the Spanish lge, Spanish cup & the Champs lge so it ain´t bad is it.

I never vote on these things because we´ll need to vote on the best player in each position. How can we say Messi is better than Banks or Beckenbauer ? And then we need to take into account the way players are trained these days & the tecno that´s out there, their boots, diats & the ball. I´m off work.

That is a good question. It would certainly show that he doesn't need the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas etc etc to be as good as he is now. However, most of the goals he's scored, he normally creates himself anyway such as rounding 4/5 players before chipping it into the back of the net.

If he was English Proud our press would have hounded him and tried to catch him out at every opportunity, I really don't understand why more of our better players don't play abroad and learn from world class players playing in world class teams.

Anyway, when can we sign Messi, come on Top <cracker>

You could put Messi and Ronaldo into the England side, but we still wouldn't win anything

Because they can earn megabucks here without moving away from their families, adapting to a new culture and learning a new language. But I agree, the England team would certainly benefit from this, but that would mean putting country before club, something that simply doesn't happen today I'm afraid.

Regarding Messi, the guy's scored 192 goals in 229 games for Barca, this is simply incredible in the modern game. And it's not just quantity but quality too - some of his goals are unbelievable.

You certainly can't judge a player but what he's won on the international stage. You need more than one or two good players to win the World Cup, hence why Spain have been so successful. Still, I would imagine Argentina will win the Copa America eventually with Messi.

So is he the best of all-time? Since I haven't been watching football for "all-time" I can't possibly comment, but I do believe he's the best player I have seen in the last 25 years.
