You can't compare until have played 19 games in my opinion. So far we've played Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Spurs, United, Everton, Newcastle - all of the teams that finished above us last year. Now we might have done the same in those 2 season but until you've played 19 games where you've played everyone in the league once you can't make a like for like comparison. Also, last year we started well then fell badly from January onwards where we only won 2 or 3 games for the rest of the year? We ended up with 52 points so from the last 22 games we picked up 23 points. I'm willing to bet we finish better this season than we did last.
Just for context when we were on 22 pts under Roy 4th placed Chelsea were on 31 pts. And last season we were 3 pts off 4th. But obviously doesn't take into account our shocking form in the secondh alf of the season. 4th place (Tottenham) are on 26 pts this season.
Its at the end of the season that counts this was never going to be easy we knew that but there are signs of a good team here and a bright future. i hope.
I know we are a long way down the table but after the transfer window closed I would have taken being 4 points from 4th.
We've got to get the transfers right (for once) in January. They don't have to be superstars costing crazy money, they just have to improve the first team. Strengthen the squad, we've then got a bunch of youth players with experience and a group of good experienced heads. Hardly going to make us title challengers overnight but should at least give us a chance of improving last years second half points tally. Nice to see the enthusiasm for your own thread Hash
I'm a lot happier than I was under Roy, and later Kenny. The teams are difficult to compare as a considerable ammont of players have come and gone (gone mostly). Some managers have had a lot more to spend than others. I am a lot happier with our performances this year compared to the last two, Our problems are ones which can be rectified - ie scoring! As long as we invest. General play is okay. I thought the problems were fundamently flawed under Roy especially. We spent buckets under Kenny but were mostly aweful. We are going through a period of change and should be patient - however if our owners don't cough up in January I will blow a gasket.

Luckily alot of top strikers are at the end of their contrcts and might be available for that kind of money if wages are made available
Yeh, would prefer Van Huntelaar, As we already have pacey wider players in Sterling and Assman with Ibe due at some point. Think klaus would add more to squad depth and will be a good player for the likes of Morgan to learn from. Also has a proven record with Luis!
Yeah true. Huntelaar would be a huge signing. It would be great for morale and our stature as a club. I still think Walcott would be a great addition on the cheap though. He can mix things up with Sterling and our other forwards. There arent too many better forwards to bring on after 60/70 minutes. I think its a great opportunity to get someone for a price below what would be their normal valuation. He would help give us depth too.
I agree. Arshavin to Arsenal was a brilliant transfer for them as was a big reason in them getting 4th that season. Jelavic & Pienaar helped Everton up the table after January last season and there's no need for me to talk about Cisse's impact at Newcastle when he signed in January. That's the king of impact we need the new transfer (or transfers) to make on our squad up until the end of the season. That would make 4th attainable.
Well thats it then. To make a charge of fourth we need to buy a couple whilst picking up points until January
