And we we can slide away and lick our wounds big time over the summer. Having been at the front of the chasing pack for the 2nd tier of the EPl we have ended the season by once again avoiding relegation by the skin of a gnats cock. Its not good enough. We could have kept the hapless plank Sbragia as manager and done no worse. 4 years back into the EPL and 4 years just barely avoiding the drop is not what I call progress. Far from establishing ourselves as a top flight club, all we are doing is spending vast sums of money to stand still or maybe even worse. For clubs like Bolton who we play today, spending ã30m or ã40m is dreamland; attracting 40,000 for 2 weeks running at home despite 1 win in 11 games is cloud cuckoo land; but they are both a better run outfit, will finish top 10 comfortably and have even managed an FA Cup semi final appearance at Wembley (despite the freakish result), which is far, far better than we have managed and don't tell me they have a better squad? There is something not quite right at SAFC and if I could put my finger on it I'd be a millionaire. Players don't go on 1 win in 11 runs if they are committed and playing for the manager and club; players don't suffer the kinds of injuries we have had all season without cause or mismanagement; your top players don't go from being happier than pigs in **** one minute to leaving the next but most of all, we are not mugs to just accept that its all about injuries and Bent anyway. I think we will get a thrashing at the Reebok this afternoon and me wishing it wouldn't be so wont stop it happening. We are demoralised and despondent as a club and team of players and yet 5,500 will be there to see it all collapse again. A home average of 39,000 have witnessed yet another horse-**** end to yet another horse-**** season and how many venture to the SOL next season is any-one's guess but I think its safe to say it wont be more. Maybe Quinny can again try and deflect from the utter crap on the pitch, by once again blaming the 3,000 or so fans who have more sense than the rest of us and stay away from the ground on match days, for the perpetual failure of the team. I'm really looking forward to the Summer break without any football because to be quite frank, I'm ****ing sick to death of the game at the minute and especially of the annual excuse making that SAFC come up with. 36 years of being force fed mediocrity and being told to thank the Lord I am granted it is taking its toll. Bruce is just simply another **** up, in a monumental long line of total **** up managers we have had at Sunderland over the past 4 decades. Is anyone really that excited about his summer planning for next seasons **** up? We all know he will probably start well again and then the 'Brucie effect' will kick in again in the second half of the campaign. Can I get excited by that? Can I ****. When are the club going to get it right on the pitch? We don't demand anything other than the club being able to cope with EPL life do we? I mean, can we not just for more than one season every 20 years watch a team that actually belongs in the top flight on merit? Cant we spend our money when we have it on players that give a flying **** about the club and the fans? I'm absolutely relived this shambolic and embarrassing season is drawing to an end and I can take stock in the close season about how many more years I want top let this club spoil my life. When will the club actually start top mirror the loyalty and passion that the fans have shown for over 130 years? So, I say to Quinn, Short and Bruce, stop the lame ****ing excuses and just do the job right for once. I for one have had a belly full of failure.
How the hell can you wish that the season was over? Do you realise that there will be no football over Summer? NO FOOTBALL. No matter how our results go (NUFC's results, that is), I'm gonna hope it drags on as much as possible so I can get my football fix before it ends.
Pleased you have enjoyed the season over on the dark side. I think the last 3 months have sucked my positive aura totally dry and I am looking forward to a Summer of no footy. Maybe without England ****ing my Summer up this time round, I can re-charge my batteries up for a July pre-season trip.
Spot on cest, but as our cousin from the dark side states, i need my footy fix. Miserable as every other true SAFC supporter at the mo but will be back next season with renewed optimism. Even tho like you say it will probably end in mediocrity. Still love Sunderland.
Good post, Cest. I mean it's not as though we're shouting for 'Wenger out - he's not winning titles and cups'. If we ended a season in 7th or 8th., we'd be ecstatic. Given the spending power we have as compared to e.g. Bolton, I don't think anyone can claim SAFC fans are over-demanding. It still amazes me what Chris Hughton did up the road last year. He took a bunch of demoralized, disinterested crap, spent nowt, and turned them into winners. This year, they've exceeded all expectations. When that stupid bloody pie-eater sacked him, we should have taken him. I don't understand it, but the lad did something there we haven't seen here since Stokoe took over from Brown - and that's far too long ago.
