So by that reckoning we should all encompass this word and use it to help remove the pain of its origional use? because if its only one type of people that are allowed to use it, then that is racist right ?? people used that argument to have seperate schools, buses, beaches etc etc !! Its not correct to separate these days, the term inverted racism is not used as much as it should be,as long as you have one group of people saying "we can use this word but you cant" you will always have a race issue
Can you list some examples of unacceptable comments toward white people then? Just so I'm aware when I'm being racially abused.
No mate, just blame someone else instead. Has anyone else seen this incident on tv ? I have but couldn't see anything. Am I missing something or does anyone else think its too far away to see?
**** me .. You seriously are dense . You asked why a black person would be offended by being referred to as a monkey so i explained. This issue is not about swansea fans...it is about one racist fan...who you chose to defend...says a lot about you and none of it good.
in texas Anglo is a derogatory term for white people used by mexicans "Bat-gwai" is the Cantonese for "white ghost;" or "white devil." Big nose is used by Asians when referring to westerners because of their larger noses. Boogie man was used by Enslaved African-Americans, who told tales to their children of a Boogie Man who would abduct you, kill you or otherwise cause harm to you if you were to leave the plantation. Boss is also commonly used to refer to white people by minority groups. Notice how many of these slurs despite mocking accept the fact that the white person is still in the position of power. White people have had a disproportionate amount of influence in much of history, and have been much more efficient at belittling other cultures than being belittled by them. That many racist slurs against white people are more cautionary than they are offensive is testament to that fact.
What the hell have I started! I haven't read all the comments. But I apologise for allowing this to kick off, particularly to the mods! Didn't intend for this to happen! May I suggest closing the thread!
There's some racist incidents to get worked up about I'm sure Bassong's fine FFS. http://violenceagainstwhites.wordpress.com/ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-Page-head-yelling-kill-white-slag-FREED.html
I dont think anything has kicked off mate, some strong views a couple of handbags but mostly good common sense debate, there have been some good points made and i dont see the need to police peoples views on this, 99% of comments have been on topic and intresting to read.
What the **** does that prove?? you can find just as many videos the other way round !! there's a good one of Rodney King if you look on the internet, why dont you put that one up there as well ??
Sorry, I should have said I'm actually a Hull City fan. When I was still in my teens I went to see my club beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates. After the game, I was confronted by an angry Gooner who waved a bottle in my face and called a "filthy ****ing Northern ****". I'd say that's more intimidating and more reprehensible than making a monkey gesture at an adult black man who knows he's under absolutely no threat of physical violence.
I'm not trying to prove anything but all those are more worthy of comment and criticism than the alleged Bassong 'incident' White people are beaten, robbed, raped & killed all over the world every day this Bassong 'incident' shouldn't even be newsworthy.
I think it's fairly simple though. If he was doing a monkey gesture to Bassong, he knows that's racially abusive. Doesn't matter about the history of it, or whether it should be deemed racist. It's common knowledge that it's seen as a racist gesture. If a black man looked like a monkey as said above, you have the common sense not to point that out. If a white man did, than you can. Whether right or wrong it's life. The reason racism is different to regional stereotypes is the history behind, years of slavery, inequality etc. It something that black people went through and terms from that period should not be used in the same way they were than e.g white man calling black man a monkey Regional stereotypes are pure myth, welsh people don't shag sheeps, Norfolk people don't shag their relatives, so why should we take offense? But Black people went through slavery, inequality, segregation etc. Hence why they are offensive.
Some people (Not me) may argue Welsh people went through inequality such as when 5 year old Welsh kids were beaten the crap out of because they couldn't speak English at the time. And because that happened a very long time ago people shouldn't be able to mock the Welsh, going by your logic? Surely it would be racist to apply your logic differently just because we're white?
I take offence when I take children with me to a football match and we all get racially abused. Or aren't I allowed to be offended because I'm white or because I'm Welsh ?
Are you being serious or just highlighting the inequality in all this bullshit? If you think you're being racially abused man up FFS.
