Part company with you there. Rob Green was frozen out and treated appallingly. That's what happens when a manager has made his choices. Those whose faces didn't fit might as well disappear. It happens with every manager up and down the country and plenty at LR before Hughes. However the only basis for selection is and always will be merit and not sympathy.
Missing what point Col? The one that agrees with Hughes dissing the disastrous Green after he's got Cesar in? Was very popular with us on here at the time. Fact is both on reputation and performance, everyone was criticising Hughes for acquiring Green in the first place. Now, after a couple of reasonable games, with a few excellent saves (as you'd expect from a highly paid prem keeper), Green's courting the sympathy vote. Bit early for me, especially given our position. Spineless imo - bit like some of his performances. Sorry, but we need soldiers right now.
It doesn't matter who is the better keeper, we should never have signed both. I think most fans were uncomfortable with having two keepers on massive salaries right from the start. Did we not have a budget or transfer policy? Probably not.
I agree with that, but I'm saying that the club handled the whole thing with Green and Cesar badly and Hughes compounded it with his terrible man management.
Any other manager would of told Green to fight for the no1 jersey rather than make him feel he is not wanted

I've no sympathy for him. He showed little loyalty to West Ham when he left them to join us for higher wages even though he was guaranteed regular football. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Having said all that, Hughes wasting all that money on Green (signing on fee, huge wages, long contract) and then signing another Keeper shows: (A) His reckless scatter gun approach to signings. (B) His disregard for the Owners money. (C) How much Fernandes was sucked in by Hughes' bull-sh*t.
I feel really sorry for Green. It must be very difficult and upsetting for him to collect £200k a month for training and getting himself fit. My heart bleeds for him
This is old news. Green was not a good signing. He was I heard poor in pre-season, made a very bad season start, apart from his mistakes he looked as nervous as hell and infected the rest of the defense. Even Clueless saw that, and took the opportunity to bring in Cesar. Don't see Green was frozen out, he was on the bench every game and would no doubt have come in for Cesar if he'd been injured with Clueless in charge. He shouldn't expect any guaranteed start place when he ain't doing it on the pitch, what more does he expect, no doubt he's been getting paid good to sit on the bench. Since he's played again he's looked better, not so nervous and did well yesterday, but still should have done better on the Villa goal - but now he can fight for his place as he says. Good luck to him, but I still prefer Cesar.
