Why would we bother replacing them with another elected official? If we removed them, well they don't have any real power now any way so there's no need for a replacement.

The whole sorry mess could and should have been avoided. Whoever was on the switchboard when the call was made should just have hung up. That is where the whole thing started. As IF the Queen would ring up like that FFS.

So sorry for the nurse(RIP) and her family but the whole affair should never have got past the switchboard,, imo

It will be interesting to see what the facts of this are though especially as nobody connected to the Royals has complained about it. Even Charles was having a laugh about the call on thursday.

As stated before, the monarch has almost unlimited power but has the wisdom not to use it. The armed forces, the mail, the legal system, the customs, C of E etc. Someone as to head these entities and steer them in a calm mature way. To replace each role with a separate individual would be very expensive and provide some structural instability. What if the head of the church was as a pacifist and the country needed to fight a war? etc

From what I heard, Tickles, the nurse was manning the switchboard (in the operator's absence) and it was her who put the call through to the 'Cambridge' ward nurse.

All in all, it's a big crock of you know what.....and all totally pointless and unnecessary.

A tragic end to a nothing incident.

Regardless of this poor woman's death, the prank was as lame as **** and amusing only to single brain celled morons, or Australians to you and I.

It didn't warrant the tragic loss of this woman's life and questions must be raised as to her mental state, her employers handling of it, outside pressures and influences from powerful individuals upon her and of course the 2 numb **** radio presenters futures.

Could they be prosecuted for being part of this poor woman's death? Maybe not but they should be dragged through the process and made to suffer.

It's all so utterly senseless imo.:(

Your stereotyping of Australians as 'single brain celled morons' (sic) is offensive and stupid.

This is simply the collateral damage of a damaged society that has to come to terms with the excesses of media. Some form of fall-out was predictable. but the suicide is simply sad and extreme - let us hope that some focus comes from it; although judging from much of the comment on here, that is a forlorn hope!

You've made a good fist of maintaining some order of balance.

Indeed it is; especially when we have our own challenger for the title posting from the land of the gold rush!

I think this is all so very sad, yes it was a prank and was meant to be harmless and now its got serious. Hope everyone involved is very disciplined and not allowed near a radio station show for a very long time until they learn some sense

In defence of the Ausies, one of their papers ran a poll the day after the prank call was made public and 65% of people voted it embarrassing and not very funny.

You are aware that 'acute morning sickness' is a possible indicator of twins? Twin births apparently occur in Mrs. Cambridge's family.

I was amused by the debate as to which one would get the swag...and it appears that first one dropped gets it all. And, if a caesarean is performed, then the first one lifted out gets it all.

You couldn't make it up. <laugh>

[P.S. - a friend of mine was cycling over Argyle Street bridge, to her work as a nurse, at QEII Hospital, when she was seven-and-a-half months pregnant.

    Says it all.....]

About what? The condition is serious, most women who suffer from it need short term treatment.

It's at all pleasant apparently, it's a bit like acute food poisoning, almost all who suffer from it go into hospital and are put on a drip.

There was nothing wrong with the prank. Unfunny maybe but not malicious and no worse than hundreds of others.
I suspect the real scumbag(s) in this have been someone in the hospital admin who exerted pressure on the woman because that hospital regularly treats the royals and she therefore became the scapegoat.

    She's out!

    No gigs till after Christmas....

Private hospital....'special treatment'...if they'd been on the case, none of this would have happened.

Listen to the freaking tape, ffs!!!

It's so obvious and, if not to her, then to the next 'defensive barrier'.

Need or no need, if we lost our monarch, we'd definitely gain a president.

I can't remember what sunny conditions were like, it's been below freezing here. Heating bills sky rocketing.

Its winter here as well. Granted my windows and doors are all open. It is 8am here in December and it is sunny and about 65 F (19?C). If you drive up the road about 15 minuets you will hit the snow line so it can be strange sometimes to be wearing shorts and then see snow only a couple thousand feet above you.

    No.

The real scumbags are the people who made the call.

Or do you think it's the nurse herself for not realising 'it's just a laugh'?
