With due respect too <ok> He actually said 'Obviously nothing instills pride in our fan-base more than winning'

Tom Fox is chief commercial officer, it's his job to promote the brand.

He's right winning is NOT everything but trying to win EVERYTHING is.

Otherwise why play and why watch?

Of course - Like Spurs, Arsenal are trying the best to win with what they have got.

This article - and it's intended response is to try to equate not winning with being the ethos at Arsenal. To me, that is just opportunistic BS spin.

That's not how I feel about my club and I'm pretty certain that's not how Wenger and the players feel. Like I said, it's Tom Fox's job to talk about the club's commercial operations.

This is just negative bluster and guff, designed to try and milk some insecurities amongst fans to score column inches.

This type of language is why the ****er thinks winning isn't everything. If he could sell his share of the club for 10% more than he bought it for, he'd rather do that than win trophies.

I understand he's the finance guy. Either he shouldn't comment, or he should stop trying to rationalize what other people are doing.

You don't think there's a commercial operation at your club that are trying to promote the Spurs brand ?

I don't doubt it piskie ... my point was not at you...it was at the numpty talking about the arsenal "brand" to supporters...

Yet more proof that football is becoming ****ed up beyond recognition.

Clubs complain that there are too many league games so there should be a winter break. The first thing they'll do is jet off to the far east or middle east to play matches against other premier league clubs to make mega amounts of money.

The "39th" game was serious discussed ( and will be again ) in terms of raising the premier League brand.

While there are "too many" league matches UEFA and top euro clubs are looking at how to expand the CL which will involve mpre matches.

All this is seen as a good thing as it raises the profile of the "brand".

Like our great manager of the 70s and 80s said as he left the lane the day he quit "there used to be a football club over there"...this was said 2 years after we became a PLC.

The annoying thing is it gets the fans talking the same way and caring about the same things as these suits.

It is not a sport where victory is everything. It is an entertainment where cashflow is the king

This is becoming epidemic on this forum. Around half of the fans on this forum bang on about finances. It's 7 years already, can we please move on and focus on frigging football!!!

Read through the thread again - It's precisely the opposite of what I'm talking about. Tom Fox is Chief commercial officer it's his job to talk about the commercial aspect of the club.

I'm saying it's up to Wenger and the board to affect what happens on the pitch and that's what, as Spurf alludes to, we as fans should be concentrating on.

Bitching about some backroom commercial employee and trying to equate it with a losing mentality is exactly what the article wants you to think, read it again. Each paragraph is juxtasposed with Fox talking about the commercial aspect, then tries to equate it with our struggles on the pitch, it's BS journalism and people are lazily falling into it's trap.
