: 'I have no news. I am frustrated. He knows what I want and he has to make up his mind' tbh seems that hes off
There was a report that Arsenal are only going up to 77k from their initial 75. Which, if true, is franky ridiculous. Look how valuable Theo has been to the team this year - he's the most marketable, one of the youngsters, with ridiculous experience for his age, and he's scoring lots of goals. Quite franky, he deserves parity with the likes of Podolski. No, he doesn't have 100 international caps, but he is younger, and consistently performing better.
Totally agree. He deserves to be one of the best paid players for Arsenal now. He clearly one of our best players now and is crucial for us with his goal scoring form this season. Wenger sounds rather desperate. In my opinion, selling him would be another backward step for the club. If we can't retain our best BRITISH talent, then how on earth will we be able to keep any of our best players. Arsenal need to make a stand NOW. Stop the rot and build a team that will be competitive. How on earth can we ever have a team that can compete for the league if we always lose players. This is becoming beyond rediculous!
Yeah i fear though it is Zaha who might be a talent but wont bring what theo does to the team for years
Its hard to say. Most of the time with these situations the players are taking the wrong advice from the agents ('You must hold out for more money') I think that's the case here. I actually think Arsenal is the best possible club for Walcott.
Of course he is off, I think he made this decision in the summer. With the money he can get as a free agent it would be foolish to sign another contract with Arsenal. What is his market price? 15ml ? 20ml? He will get A LOT. When you think about it the diference between 75, 77 and 80k per week is just irrelevant. They are negotiating nothing.
Goodbye Theo. He frustrated and delighted us in equal measure in his time with Arsenal. I wish him all the best at his new club.
I am really not sure about Theo. There is no doubt he is a player that does many things well, but the current trend to 4-2-3-1 leaves him high and dry. He would have made a good Michael Owen with a big striker in a 4-4-2, but he is essentially correct that he just does not have the strength or size to be a midfielder or a wide forward, in a team that is facing a lot of deep sitting packed defences. Against a handful of teams, he is a very good player to have, but there are so many times when he isn't a good option, he becomes a luxury player at the club. If we were richer, we would pay the money and play him a bit like United did Park, in the big games, against the teams willing to play us at football, but at 80K+, can we afford to just use him in Europe and maybe 10 PL games a season? Quite apart from that, he is so different we have to adopt a different style of play when he is in the side. That must be difficult for everyone else in the team. I know everyone is fond of this "Plan B" stuff, but I'm not sure how practical that is in reality. As we have seen recently, getting "Plan A" right is hard enough, without having to screw around with something else.
I'd say he frustrated and delighted us on at least a 6:1 ratio, nowhere near equal measure. But for Arsenal fans you're as good as your last 3-4 games. I'd still keep him as a situational starter, but I'm sorry for him that he's been made to believe he is better than he is. He is not good enough to be the highest paid player in any top 10 PL team, not just Arsenal. Never was.
I wanted to link to that pre-season thread where everyone who is now raving on about Walcott gave more sober analysis on the player's qualities, but you all probably remember it...
Yes, it's ridiculous he is only getting offered 77k a week, poor ****ing lamb. Oh, Walnut is ****e btw.
I would hope if we get shot of the guy that we replace him with real WC talent not simply move Cazorla out onto the wing and put Ramsey in midfield.
I can understand the frustration Wenger is feeling - he has obviously been trying to get Theo to commit for a while now! I really hope something is sorted and he stays. Same with Sagna. I really don't want to lose these two, i think they dominate the right hand side of the pitch. I'll be really disappointed if Theo leaves but i still have hope that something will be arranged. It seems now it's all his agent trying to push for more money!
Who exactly does Walcott think he is going to go and play for? The only big teams I could see taking him in this country are Man City/ Chelsea and for both of those clubs he would spend more time on the bench than the pitch. He could go to Liverpool, but surely that's a huge backward step. He will have to go to Italy or Germany to find regular football for a title challenging club.
