I've no idea, but I suspect as a centre back himself, Brucey will not be entirely comfortable with Macca's somewhat frantic style of play. I think we'll know more when Hobbs is fully fit, I suspect Bruce would like to see him back in the starting XI.
Small point but Mcshane doesnt actually say hell, the caption writer does. Mcshane says worst 2 years of his life. So your not playing, being snubbed by your managers and your dad has died at a young age. Ye i think I'll allow him that.
Exactly! People have just bought the OP's unfair spin on things and gone off on rants about money. Money isn't everything (as long as you're not starving) - I've never bought a lottery ticket, because I believe that kind of wealth would be more of a curse than a blessing.
The OP hasn't put any spin on it, he simply quotes the article. I really can't believe people condoning his attitude... you lot must be well off too! I think we all get your point that as a footballer, after a while, the money is not what matters, the grass is always greener on the other side and you start envying those that start each game in your position rather than those getting paid the most. I play team sport regularly and being on the bench or out of the starting line-up is definitely depressing but to go as far as saying worst two years of his life... just can't condone it no matter how you spin it. He must have had a wonderful life up until then. Either way, as I said earlier if it was really that bad for his poor soul then he could easily have done something about it but the money became priority number 1. Anyways, it doesn't matter, you cannot come out with **** like that in this current climate, when you play for a club representing a city that's suffering quite a lot more than any london or manchester club.
The newspaper put its spin on it by using the word 'hell' - which McShane didn't. And the OP added his spin by bringing McShane's wages (which are apparently not £25k) into it. McShane didn't mention money, and I don't think everything a footballer ever says should be analysed in the context of his wages. When McShane described it as the worst two years of his life, I'm sure his dad was very much in his mind as well as footballing matters.
At this point it doesn't matter who might've spun what... Nobody can seem to combat the point Circa makes repeatedly. If it was that bad not playing then he could have gone elsewhere, but obviously for less money. This must have been an option while we were shifting out the deadwood (in my opinion, McShane being one of the deadest woods we have). Because McShane knows he won't get this wage anywhere else he stayed here. Ergo he CHOSE to opt for this 'hell' or 'worst 2 years' or however you want to put it, because he wanted to keep his current wage. Any argument about not playing at this point becomes moot. You can't always have your cake and eat it.
But then again, you can support both sides of the argument. We can't prove or disprove that what he's saying is legitimate, i.e. wages, happiness and will to remain at the Club, and it could all just be him attempting to make himself look like a Saint. However, I do agree that this year, he is definitely our best defender in terms of performance this year. Just cut out his couple of mistakes a game, and he's perfect. I'd give him another deal definitely, he's earned it. If he takes a pay cut that is.
He's an accident waiting to happen. What seems to have happened this season is that the team is doing well and he hasn't been exposed too much. His alice band and long run in the side seems to have convinced some newer fans that he is the real deal, round me people call him ironically 'the Kaiser' cos they know he will panic if closed down when he has the ball or **** up a pass. He more often than not passes it back to the keeper when anyone goes within 15 yards of him. Back in the 4th division days, it was gallows humour to lionise Big Billy and his ilk, but our fans are more sophisticated now and we have real class in the team. We don't need to have players to laugh at in our team, we want players that other clubs covet like Chester, Koren and Hobbs. Good luck to Paul if he can earn 25 k a week. He always gives his best, I don't dispute that, but please don't whinge about your lot at HCFC. I doubt you'll get another wage like it . Ever.
If it ends up we are in this league again next year I would offer him another deal. Of course of a lot, lot less than he is rumored to be making now.
If you ignore Chester's two errors per season, and Bruce and Faye's one each so far then they've been perfect too. I don't like constantly having this McShane debate and being on the negative side, but I just think it's insulting to talented players like Chester and Faye who are having their contribution played down for this almost ironic McShane worship. I thinkn City Agro is hinting at what this too, it seems like people want to go over the top about Macca almost as a joke.
I feel I should clarify that, while I'm very much on his side in the debate on this thread about his two low years, I still think he's a crap player.
I do agree that I do get rather agitated when he's on the ball. I'm still not 100% sure that Macca isn't about to give the ball away or let their player through on goal. I'm not trying to put down Chester, Faye or Bruce at all because they've hardly made any mistakes either. I think Chesters' main mistake - the own goal - was actually because of McShane completely missing the ball for a clearance. But due to the change in system - 3 at the back - Chester hasn't been able to make as much of an impact this Season as he did last, but he's still our best defender. I was trying to say that McShane performance levels have dramatically improved and we all know it's likely to end soon but praise him while we can at least.
Sounds like you believe what the papers write! I think everyone has seen the dark side of McShane; just as we have every other player. Saying that accepting and applauding McShanes peak (and I agree that it is a peak) in form is insulting other players has to be the most bizarre football comment I have ever read. He has been widely recognised as being in fine form, he has won the plaudits of manager and fellow players, as well as professional journos and pundits - this measured by MOTM performances. He declines to talk money or contracts and simply wishes to focus on his form and his contribution to the Tigers progress - why not simply applaud that and get behind him? I am sure that just like all players he will eventually suffer a reversal in form and then all of you staunch Tigers nay-sayers can vent your spleens to your heart's content! As for a new contract; he is one of many who will struggle in the PL, but just how much cash can the owners inject to replace them all with better?
My post was simply about matters on the pitch, in response to AM saying Macca had been our best defender this season. I'm not saying it's insulting to the other defenders to praise McShane. What is insulting is that while Chester and Faye have been near enough perfect all season (and Bruce has been pretty good too) and hardly had any recognition for it, McShane gets people making a big fuss over him every time he has an OK match. The bit I've highlighted in bold is a load of bollocks and nothing less. No one gives a **** about McShane outside of Hull, they don't really give a **** about any of our players bar Aluko, why would they all be talking about McShane? His 'motm' performances were Palace and Blackpool. They weren't anything official, they were just the silly text vote inside the ground which has never been representative of the match in any way. Against Blackpool he won it because of the novelty of him being back in the team and not being completely appalling, but he still had hairy moments and IMO, was at fault for the winning goal and made Amos look a tit. Against Palace we tore them apart in midfield, most of our team were classy and while we kept a clean sheet, the defence had nothing much to do all game and McShane no more than the rest of them. As for the papers comment, can't see what you're getting at there at all. Do the papers say that Chester, Bruce and Faye deserve the recognition McShane is getting? Once more, I don't enjoy having this argument and being the negative one, but it's getting silly all this exaggeration for Macca. If you're against players getting criticised I can understand that, but that doesn't mean they should be praised out of all proportion.
What people that are criticising him for saying it's been the worst two years of his life are ignoring is the bit where a previous poster has mentioned his dad died in that time. I'm not sure that was an element he chose.
