http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/swansea-put-30m-price-tag-on-michu-in-bid-to-warn-off-suitors-8390120.html Like Berbatov in many ways. Only quicker. Would you?
No. This is still early days, he's only in his first season in the Premiership, and I would wait to see how he does next year, when defenders have Sussed him out. Apart from that, I can assure you that if he was that good it would not have gone unnoticed here in Spain. One of the big boys would have taken him before now.
Look at Cisse at Newcastle for a good comparison to Michu. Although clearly he has been brilliant so far, for us to consider that sort of money for a player who's only done it for 15 games would be madness. It could end up being like the Andy Carroll Liverpool move. Plus I have high hopes that Siggy will rediscover his form of last season. And he's only 22 I think.
I understand what you're saying and I do think that £30 million is too steep, especially considering what they paid. I do however question the "If he was that good, a BIG team would be in for him" argument whenever I hear it. (I understand that you're talking about Spain in this case.) Apparently Berbatov wasn't that good either by that logic. I often wonder why we can't be the BIG team that finds these players at £2-5 million, BEFORE they're known to the masses and their value shoots up. Hopefully AVBs scouting aptitude will serve us similarly in the near future.
For 18 to 20 I would drive down, do a little surfing and bring him back. For a firm offer in this price range they may be tempted if Chelsea or City don't come in for him. This is worth the risk as we unlikely ever going tor pay top draw for a outstanding striker.
Good player but £30m no way! You can buy 2 Dembele's or nearly 4 Vertonghen's or 3 Lloris' or 6 Adebayors for that!!! He's had a great start and at £2m is definitely the buy of the season but we're not even half way through the season yet and they want 15x the amount they paid? And I thought Levy was a tough negotiator! I don't blame 'em for putting it that high though, he's been key to their form this season and so in some respects, he's priceless to them.
Rayo Vallacano are a relative minnow in Spanish football - a yoyo club. Michu is 26. I'm fairly confident that had he shown any above average ability here in Spain, he would have a) gone to a bigger club here, or b) no way would Vallacano have sold him for as little as they did. He may well prove to be a useful player in the Premiership. But again, it's very early days. £30mil at this stage is ludicrous!..
Wait. Are you saying that actually he is just an average player that is now having a freakishly great run of EPL top striker form?
A 2m player becomes 30m based on half a season. Never heard of him at 26 either. How many one season wonders have we seen!
I think people are missing the point here. Nobody is saying that Michu is WORTH £30M. Laudrup said that if they want to buy Michu they would have to pay over the top to secure his services because, for Swansea, Michu is priceless. You never let your best players go for less than or even equal to their value (unless they go out of their way to force a move), and so Swansea are employing such a tactic because they do not want Michu to leave and rightfully so.
I'm with NSIS on this. Even if he never made it to RM or Barca, someone like Valencia or Athletico M would have snapped im up before 26, surely? it's all too early. he looks like a very good player who might have found his home in the premier league. but 15 games in and swansea putting a £30 mill tag on his head, is utterly ludicrous. 10-15 mill would be well worth it though. - we've seen enough of his talent already to justify that money.
Just look at Papiss Cisse, he had a stormer last season from when he joined but now can barely get in the team. Even if he was all that £30mill is mad money.
No. I'm saying that is possibly the case. He is new to the Premiership, this is "honeymoon" Period, if you like. It always takes defenders, opposing coaches, etc a while to suss out how you like to play. IF he can still be producing the same strike rate in 12 months time, then I'll be a little more convinced that he's the real thing.
Nope I wouldn't. 30 mill? If you pay that kind of money then you expect 30mill worth of talent coming through. As soon as you pay that kinda money then watch him play like Carrol. He has to do it for a good few seasons to be considered a worthwhile punt or we may aswell go and piss the money down some gutter.
Loads of examples of players who look great for a few matches or even a season or two and it turns out it was just a run of good luck. Bentley springs to mind or Rodallega. No way should anyone pay £30m
they have put that price tag on him to frighted off rivals wanting to buy him, trouble is if RA thinks he's good that price would be peanut's for him,as we saw when he tried to but Rat-boy
This would be my reservation too, there's better, more proven talent out there for much better value.
