Available now as stand alone recording (apologies if this has already been previously posted) for a tenner. Allegedly superior to the concert recorded in Jimmy Saville Town the night before, gotta be worth a punt. Anyone got it?
I remember reading a quote, can't remember if it was Daltry or Townsend, but it was actually meant to be 'Live At Hull' not 'Live At Leeds', but the recording equipment failed. But some how they recovered it.
It was supposed to be Live At Hull, but they thought that Entwhistle's bass hadn't recorded. Someone went back and checked the recording recently and found that though it hadn't recorded at the start of the gig, most of it had recorded, hence the decision to release the version they originally planned. I haven't heard it yet, but I will be getting it.
I read a few reviews on Amazon and it seems very similar to the Leeds one (as might be expected). Hard core Who fans seem to resent paying for another live recording similar to an existing one.
Townsend was pissed off that Live at Leeds was released,as Hull (think it was at Hull uni)was by far the better gig. Great news this,i'll put it on me crimbo wish list !
It was at the City Hall... http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/humberside/hi/people_and_places/newsid_9190000/9190474.stm
I was there on the night ....a bunch of us ligged our way in by carrying gear up those horrible steep back stairs, helping the roadies. I didn't have a seat, but hung around on the balcony near the stage. Brilliant gig!
me too. but I had to pay for my ticket. fell in love with The 'oo that night. Shame the last 30+ year have become such a **** parody of what they were. Stones best R'n'R band in the world? No way.
Don't think it was promoted by Hull Brick - my wife's still a bit "mutton" from this one and we're wondering who to sue. We went to a Fairport Convention gig a few weeks later and Richard Thompson was complaining about the City Hall acoustics when a member of the audience pointed out that the Who thought it was great - RT pointed out that the Who did tend to use a bit more amplification.
i cannot believe that either roger daltry nor pete townsend live in hull. surely it would be kirkella at least?
Ah right. It's years since i read about the Hull version,it seems my brains altered the furniture a bit.
It sounds like the vocals are a lot better and keith moon was on it with the drums inHull the bass was copied from Leeds but the Hull show seems better musically than Leeds however Leeds is the definitive album a shame really cos it would have put Hull further on the map if the equipment worked!
