Jackson, Surman, Fox, Morison, E Bennett, Barnett, Tierney, C Martin, CH may well want to move one or all of them on. I'm not saying that I would do so (well I would ship out Morison), but none of these players other than E Bennet seem to figure in his plans at all, so wouldn't surprise me if any of them left
Think it's wrong to say that most of these players don't figure in his plans. Our current starting XI are doing brilliantly, so why drop them? That's why they're not playing. Jackson - Holt is our captain and we are only playing one up front. Surman - hard to decide where to put him in the current formation. Was left wing until Pilkington came back from injury, and he's been too good. E Bennett - has been featuring. Snodgrass is taking up the right wing. Fox - cant drop Tettey or B Johnson, both have been doing brilliantly. Barnett - Bassong and Turner have been playing well, R Bennett good as back up, Barnett did feature earlier in the season. Tierney - back up left-back, Garrido has been playing v well. C Martin - poor, other strikers ahead of him. I disagree with getting rid of any of the players mentioned above, with the exception of C Martin, as these players are able back-ups for a tea, that has been playing v well so there's no need to change the team. Also a like for like swap is better than getting rid of a left back - which would mean we are left with one left back if Garrido was to be injured, and we would be screwed.
CH would have to be a bit careful who and how many he lets go. If, for example, he let Lappin and Tierney go then we are short of cover at left back. If Lappin and Surman go then he is short of cover on the left side of midfield and if Martin and Morison go then unless Kane gets fit quickly he has no cover for Holt. I suspect that if he can get rid of Martin, Lappin and Ward he would happily do so without needing like for like replacements but no more than that. This leaves a couple of places in the squad which he may or may not fill. With inflated prices in January he may decide to wait until the summer for any major change of squad. There is also the problem that players he wants to move on may not want to go or may not appeal to other Clubs.
So you would be surprised if any of the above left ? That was really my point wonky these are all 'Lambert's' players don't forget, CH might have his own ideas and want to 'freshen' things up a bit
Totally agree Wonky, and what a short-sighted statement made earlier up this thread about letting all those players go just because they're not in the first team plans at the moment. It's a long old season and we're only just over a third of the way through with a potential FA Cup run to come yet so I'm sure everyone will have a part to play between now and May (possibly with the exception of Chrissy Martin). The knee-jerk reactions of football fans never ceases to amaze me!
I would be both amazed and very disappointed if and of Jackson, Surman, Bennett, Fox, or Tierney left, yes
The board will have made it perfectly clear at the outset to CH that apart from survival in the Prem, clearing the external debt remains one of the top priorities. On that basis, I'd be surprised if he gets a great amount to spend in the January window, so apart from perhaps C. Martin and maybe Lappin, I expect everyone else to stay.
i think one or two of those mentioned will leave, IF we can afford a better replacement. probably not C Martin, i can't see who would buy him as he's hardly been banging them in at Swindon; he will be released in the summer. we've got the whole of Dec and Jan to discuss it!
Oh, and thanks for the by the way. I was very tempted to give you one for your stupid comment but decided not to. Baring in mind you gave me one for a typo I really wish I had now
