Morning all, dry at present but maybe a light shower or two is forecast for later. Coffee first, then another day of Christmas shopping by the looks of things. :(

Just another little snippet from the French press to read while you tuck into your breakfast.

Authorities have launched an investigation after an 18th-century French chateau was demolished, apparently by mistake.

The 13,000-square-metre Château de Bellevue was located among the famous vineyards of Bordeaux and was due to be renovated to its former glory, but instead it was bulldozed by a Polish building firm.

Workmen were only supposed to demolish a separate small building on the grounds of the estate, but that remains standing.

According to local French media, the château’s owner, Russian businessman Dmitry Stroskin, was “left in shock” when he found out his mansion had been razed to the ground.

Stroskin, who runs an import business in Poland, told reporters that he had spent years searching for his ideal French château and finally decided on Bellevue after “falling in love” with it.

The businessman said he understands the anger among local residents in the town of Yvrac, but said he will not be prosecuting the builders for their calamitous gaffe.

“The damage has been done,” Stroskin said.

He has vowed to “rebuild an identical Bellevue” including the chateau’s grand hall, which could host up to 200 people.

He may be held to that promise by the irate mayor of Yvrac, Claude Carty, who has ordered all work on the site to be stopped while an investigation takes place.

With the reputation of Russian businessmen, I suspect that they may be persecuted instead......

Morning all from a snowy bandit country - I got a mile down the road at 06.00 am and then decided it was too dangerous and went back to bed! Mrs W_Y took 2 hours to cover 6 miles into bandit central to get to work!

OFH - I am expecting a similar story close to home. One of my local pubs has sold part of it's beer garden for houses and it's being developed by the local Irish mafia...I am waiting for the pub, which is a listed building, to catch fire or get demolished by a runaway JCB <yikes>

Trip to Manc is looking good - return train from MK to Manc £22 and a hotel room to take 3 of us for £60 inc breakfast, should be fun!

Thanks dude, much appreciated. It will sooth my throat from the tickly cough which is currently the biggest pain in the bumhole and keeping my wife awake at night. Trust me, annoying a french woman is not a good thing to do!

£22 from MK to Manchester and it's £16.00 for a 25 minute journey from Berko in to London. Can anyone else see whats wrong with that?

Me too - the SPL clubs were shabby in their treatment of Rangers - I hope none of them gets an owner who acts as Rangers did - it is not the Owner but the fans who suffer - and it seems Dundee in particular were main culprits - I note it is not just the club refusing tickets but the Supporters too

Then it could be said that the fans are causing their own suffering.;)

I can see the SFA saying that as Rangers were offered their allocation, but refused them, there's nothing they can do. What would be interesting then is if there is a replay - will Dundee U take a similar approach?

good evening all. Thanks so much for your kind messages. I have been at the hospital since last friday, and my friend finally passed away very peacefully yesterday evening. She fought so hard, and was refusing to let go...but the battle was finally lost and thankfully now she is free from pain. The funeral will be tomorrow..and lots of tears will be shed...she was 55..way too young and her poor mum keeps repeating that it's the wrong order of things..she's not wrong. The support won't stop here...my friend's mum, son and sister will need me..but at least i will have time to get back to WFC, and get back to some sense of normality.

So sorry H, she was clearly someone very special to you. I am just pleased that she did pass away peacefully. There are people who come into our lives that no matter what happens always stay with us. I suspect that she will be one of those people for you.
