Just seen this - http://www.burndenaces.co.uk/2012/12/05/butterfield-loan-set-to-end.html Jacob Butterfield looks set to return to Norwich City at the weekend, when his loan deal at Bolton comes to an end. Hopefully he'll at least be on the bench for the game on Tue - would love to see him at least get a runout.
A couple of weeks ago twitter was going mad about how well he played, not sure if it's people getting carried away or not but could be good to have back with a bit more fitness. Possibly as relief for Wes if he is tiring in a game, can't see him displacing anyone in the starting 11 at the moment though.
Speaking of Tuesday, it will be interesting how CH approaches the game with his team line up. So far we have fielded weaker teams in all the rounds including spurs but with a semi final place at stake could he put out a much stronger line up. As for butterfield, now he has some minutes under his belt I imagine he will be more involved.
Only seen the guy once against Spurs (i think) Not really sure what his best position is. I really hope we go for a strong team on Tues.a good opportunity awaits if we win.
I read that the Villa game was the reason for him coming back now. Reckon Howson and Fox will play CMF.
Time was, a good cup run surpassed everything. Now it is dwarfed by the PL. I expect that the other players will get a chance, as with Spurs, and City wasn't overrun then!
You obviously did not go to Spurs game. We were lucky, and but for Bunns heroics would have lost. I cannot understand why supporters do not expect a strong team in a 1/4 final game
i'm with Yarco play full strength if not most of the regulars - it's one extra game, they should be able to do that.
Unfortunately I think Hughton will see a home game against Wigan in the league as more important for the first team. I would love to put a full strength team out give us the best chance to potentially get to wembley. Would be amazing, but we will see.
Nobody wants to jeopardise our PL survival, so I'd expect some players rested before the key wigan game. It'll be interesting to see if Bunn plays, seeing as he's currently our main 'keeper, will one of our young'uns get a chance?
maybe CH will rest some of the current first teamers, play a bit of a mix. i'd like to see some of the midfield retained - bradders, tettey, if they're not too knackered. Fox / Howson will get overrun. Plus one of R Bennett or Turner (assuming he is back by then)
In the Spurs game, we were second best, though dogged, until the subs came on. Those three made the difference with Tettey getting the deflected goal, and Holt's head down to Jackson getting the second. So I would think something similar will happen next week, with some of our good but 'not currently in the team' players starting, and with plenty of fire and guile on the bench ready to win the game after 60 minutes, if necessary.
Seeing as it is Villa at home and quite far in the progress I really hope we play a strong team. I think CH will do a mix, I expect at least one of our first XI CBs to play because they do not do as much running as other positions, but I expect Rusty will make his return, maybe Tierney too. Midfield will look different - hard to imagine E. Bennett not getting a run out and I expect either Morison and/or Jackson to start.
I definitely expect Howson, Rusty and Elliott to start at least and wouldn't be at all surprised to see Tierney and maybe even Foxy getting a run out if they're all fit. I disagree that our midfield would get overrun, this is Villa we're talking about who looked absolutely bereft of any real creativity in the middle of midfield at all. If we continue with one up front, which I suspect we might, then either Wes or possibly even Jacob if he gets the nod will support our midfield nicely. Don't forget that during the summer lots of us tipped Jonny to be player of the year - and maybe even captain - and Fox was voted our third best player of last season so as well as Tettey and Johnson have played this year I wouldn't say we'd be putting out a "weak" side if we played Howson and Fox in there. I imagine any of our fringe players must be champing at the bit to show what they can do and try to force their way into Hootun's plans - a superb position for our brilliant manager to be in if you ask me
He hasn't really played there. He's been playing central mid which Leeds fans say isn't his best position. He's only had two, very short sub appearances in the advanced position, and that was when we had gone very defensive to win the game. Also, remember he almost scored us a second, I think it was Arsenal or United, so he deserves a full game in the advanced position before we can judge him this season.
