I would suggest that losing 7 matches out of 20 would not qualify as playing the best football in the league personally. Thats over a third.

Start with the companies house link that shows when the old Leeds was liquidated. There are also several sites, including archived discussions on leeds message boards, that discuss the problems associated with the Golden Share and the fact it was left with the old club for a period. You'll see that I was being economical as it's not simply a case that the share died as there are issues associated with the timing and manner of the transfer, but it was definitley left with the old club when ALL other assets were moved to teh new club and it looked for several days that Batesa had called a bluff too far, before the Authorities offered charity to leeds. As a further pointer, it was around the time Bates was refusing to pay for old leeds and would only pay for the new one that had no football membership rights.

I reckon a bit of a google will find them.

There's also a link on this (or maybe the other) thread that discusses Glasgow Rangers and other Scottish Clubs and the view that they can no longer claim the history of the liquidated club.

Your definition of franchise leaves a lot to be desired, it's ot just about the location, it's about the transfer of the right to membership of the football league. Old leeds kept that right, new leeds didn't have it.

At that point, new leeds existed only as a group of people, they had no right to play in the football league. Old leeds had the right to play, but was left with no way of doing it. That means the right to play in the league was up for grabs. The football league was under no obligation to let the collection of players assembled as new leeds play. They could have sold it to anyone. Fortunately for leeds, they took the charitable view and passed the share to new leeds with slight penalties.

Now, you may or may not call that a franchise, I'd say it clearly is, but I'd also say it's a step forward that you acknowledge that the old leeds and new leeds are separate clubs.

Most really tedious threads are ones where people pick a word or phrase (like "big club" to give another example) then they all define it differently, so that they are all "right" in the context of that definition. If you define "franchise club" in a certain way then any team in the land is a franchise club - so what?
