These days you normally get your fax on a a4 sheet of paper a la printer style , those museum pieces you had to rip the paper roll off when it had delivered a fax!!
We used to leave a pair of scissors handy on the fax machine table!

All this talk of snow and me driving around with the aircon on. 32C this afternoon as I ploughed through the soggy tarmac, yet still early May.

Been out with Mme nearly all day. Somehow my credit card is feeling overused.

We did pop in for a quick bite to eat midday and while I was waiting for the second half of the expedition to begin, (why do some sexes always take so long to........) better leave that one alone, I spotted something that I have never seen before.

As I have mentioned in the past we do have some snakes here. As in the UK most are quite harmless. Two of them were on the grass verge down the side of the house going through their courting ritual. They were both about a metre long and were completely entwined with each other. They would both rear up, standing a couple of feet off the ground, and rub their tiny heads against each other. I watched this for five minutes or so, before Mme appeared with a camera. She managed to get a couple of photos from a distance, but as she moved closer the gyrating stopped, and they fled into the long grass of the field. The saying that they are more frightened of humans than we are of them is quite true.

OK - if we are into nostalgia mode - I bet none of you remember the precursor to copying machines - the old Banda machine - our school teachers used to use it - the mauve coloured ink had a superb smell - we used to get high on it :)

You don't have to be very old to remember banda machines. They were still being used in the late 70s - on second thoughts you do have to be old!

And of course they were only as legible as the teacher's handwriting. Our History teacher, Mr Trout, couldn't even read his own writing.

One of my first jobs was in a drawing office and as the lowest of the low I had to do the dye-line printing of the plans. We had paper that had a yellow light sensitive paper that was passed beneath the bright light of the machine, then placed into an ammonia box to develop. The smell of the ammonia was overpowering, but the whole time I did that job I never had a cold.

Leo, Saturday is cold and grey and as I write the lights have gone out all over Chch. Only the streetlights. They all switch off at the same time but I still enjoy watching it happen.
I suspect that by the time Saturday gets to you it will have warmed up a bit and be a bit brighter

This place is a very good virtual pub. There are different conversations going on at the same time and you can dip into whatever interests you at the time.

In my first job we had a machine that made copies by puting a copy sheet between the original paper and the paper to have the copy on. You had to turn a handle and make the papers go around some rollers. It was messy.
