Oh and Roger never say never. There is an incremental but definite demographic shift in the province toward a nationalist voting majority. I smell a refurendum down the line. The result of the Scottish vote, if a yes, may act as a catalyst to the process, but even if its a no it will still not stop the demographics.

The PIRA were established as a reactionary protection movement in 1969 to the persecution, killing and burning out of homes of catholics perpetrated by the UVF (est.1966) whipped into a storm by one Ian Paisley and aided by the RUC. At first they welcomed the peacekeeping intervention of the British troops but the British troops couldn't help themselves and in standard practise lost the hearts and minds of the communities they were sent in to protect within months and began their own campaign of persecution. That is when the PIRA took a more offensive stance. The behaviour and policies of the British security forces in the province on those early years wrought the next 30 years of violence. Start looking a bit closer to home when flinging out the "thug" insult roger. But the paras weren't thugs, they were trigger happy sissys hiding behind their rifles and armoured vehicles

 

That was my point mate.
