    Jesus, read it again NOF.

keywords. some would. I then follow that I would not throw him in. Just a suggestion that will probably, at some stage get thrown in.

  2. I was Roy Evans' era when I really started to take notice so its similar for me but I can recall odd players from before that. The Macca, Fowler, Berger, Redknapp, Collymore, Barnes, Ince, etc clang is the team I enjoyed watching the most. We played 352 and attacked sides, shame we couldn't defend for **** but it was great to watch <ok>

Tim Howard? Good keeper, but couldn't handle the pressure - every time he made a mistake his head would drop until he got a few games rest. Think the move to Utd was just too big a step up for him mentally, same as for keepers like Foster and Carroll. He's found a good level at Everton tho - a top club but one that doesn't have the same level of media pressure and focus as Utd.

Also a shame (for you guys at least) that they didn't take their football more seriously. You might have had a decent crack at the PL with that side had they done more training and less Spice Boying. Tho' maybe that was partly Evans' influence - he never really looked capable of cracking down on players who weren't taking the game seriously.

  5. Both clubs have had keepers that didn't work out but then they have gone on to have a decent career at a high level.

Man Utd - Howard, Foster, etc (could be more?)
Liverpool - James, Friedal, Kirkland, Carson, etc

Ronaldo is there <ok> I thought it was more appropriate to play him in the position he played most of his football at Man Utd and also because there were better strikers than right wingers to pick from (in behind Ronaldo) <ok>

See it is harder for me to really remember at all ( other than current youtube vids) of anything really before that due to lack of coverage here. Thank **** for the World cup being in the US in 94 or I wouldn't have been able to catch the games and teams. I played competitvely since I was 10 so had a grasp of things outside the US but wasn't until after the WC that we really got the Tv rights in ( which United of course made serious strides in).

Just checked that 96-97 season and we finished fourth which at the time wasn't enough for CL spot 2-4 all had 68 points. <yikes>

Did we not get second with that team? close but no cigar as usual, then a complete overhaul Evans, Houllier, Rafa all had that hang over them, since then just been too inconsistent at everything.

Well I am glad it worked out as Howard is awesome for the US. Whatever happened to the polish keeper, kuszcak(sp)?

Morientes was class, but had been going downhill for a few years before he came to Liverpool. His goalscoring record for you wasn't that different from in his last two seasons at Real, tho he did have a storming 03/04 CL campaign.

The one that really gets me is Forlan. Scored for fun before he joined us, scored for fun as soon as he left. But whilst he was here it was choke, choke, choke, choke. He only scored against **** teams like Maccaba Haifa and Southampton. Oh, and Liverpool <ok>

  10. Man Utd and Keegan's Newcastle followed by an Arsenal team under new management (Wenger from September?) finishing just above us too <grr>

  11. I don't recall us getting second under Evans. I think the only second place finished we have had are under Houllier and Rafa <ok>

Edit: Just looked it up and the 95-96 season appears to have been the best under Evans <ok>

He is class, but that miss , albeit a pre-season game, against Juventus was priceless!

Cisse I thought could have been decent for us but was so injury prone. He at least offered something different but think for that money it kind of hindered Rafa a bit as that was what 14 million ha he couldn't use due to the deal being sanctioned before him?

The Forlan thing sounds a bit like Voronin when he came to us, scored goals in germany, got to us, couldn't score for ****, goes on loan to Hertha I believe, scores for fun, comes back, ****. <ok>

Aye, good point. Change my team then - stick Ronaldo at RW and Gerrard as second striker behind Cantona. That's arguably where Gerrard played his best as well, in 08/09. And as Bluff and I agreed before, Gerrard only really works in the centre with two players behind him to free him up to go Hollywood. I think Keane and Scholes would do a great job of that <ok>

    Schmeichel
    Neville-Vidic-Stam-Irwin
    Ronaldo-Keane-Scholes-Giggs
    --------Gerrard
    -------Cantona

Fowler to come off the bench if we need a late goal (like that team would ever need a late goal!)

I think the highest you got was third. Good team, but perennial chokers, playing pretty football but always dropping points and letting teams back into games. Sound familiar? ;)

  15. I edited the post above. The 95-96 season was the best under Evans <ok>

  16. Might seem a bit of a daft question but, did Cantona ever play as a lone forward...? Is it a role he could have done...? He liked to be the one that dropped a little deeper as part of a front two.

I almost agree with that side, I reckon I would opt for Hyypia over Vidic though but it is very close <ok>

    Let's go 3-4-3

    -------------Schmeichel-------------
    -------Vidic/Rio-----Hyypia-----Stam----
    -----------------keane--------------
    ---------scholes----------alonso-----
    -----------------Gerrard-------------
    Ronaldo-------Fowler/Cantona--------Giggs

probably not very defensive minded that bunch.

Edit: Fowler/cantona/Torres/Owen/RVN whichever floats your boat. Macca could probably sub in for any of the wide players.

  19. Apart from Giggs, that would be extremely narrow <laugh>

Haha I know but it could work!

You could alwyas put it into a 3-5-2 giggs on one side, macca on the other with the engines they had and up top CR and then whoever tickles your fancy.
